I have been growing for 6 yrs. using seeds & clones but I have never had a seed split open in 12 hrs using the paper towel method. The seeds- I found 3 seeds in a sack of chem dawg, I used the paper towel method and stuck them in my clone closet 12 hrs later 2 of them split open. Has anyone ever seen this happen this quickly? Thanks (not a problem just curious)

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I don't like to use the paper towel method only because of the risk I feel I run of stress to the root (tap root) from pulling it off the towel and maybe losing tiny lateral root growth that might occur. Towels are FAST though. I usually soak my seeds in a warm place in a mason jar w/a little (and ONLY a little! couple drops) humic acid and ethephon in water. These break up the husk and help the tap root growth. Ethephon actually is a liquid form of ethylene, so I srart trying to influnece femininity early. My seeds almost always drop to the bottom in 2-3 hrs. Cracking may take 12 - 48 hrs depending on the strain. These are my observations: White Rhino= 18-24 hrs cracking Northern Lights x Big Bud= 12=16 hrs AK 48=24-48 hrs Peace love and hairgrease EM

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I never know how long mine take to germinate; I just drop seeds in pretreated rockwool. ![]() But here's a tip for all who germinate using the paper towel method. It does not hurt to plant a small piece of paper with your seed. So if there is any question about damage to the tap root, tear the towel and plant that small piece of paper underneath it.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Welcome to GC.com ![]() I see seeds split overnight. Fresh seeds seem to be more apt to do this. I've also seen it take over a week for a bean to crack. ![]() Nice find there Minister420 in your bag. Enjoy the time here. peace- OD ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | hey Minister420, Welcome to GC ![]() I personally have never had it take more than 24 hours for beans to pop and my method is very simple. Tupperware + wet paper towel + cable box = nice warm humid germination environment. ![]() Nice find, chemdawg is pretty killer...hopefully that progeny is too! ![]() ![]()

![]() | Pop them better in their own conditions, I've never used the paper towel method and it seems you don't always need it. Your plant may of immaturely sprouted or it may have been due to dehydration if you didn't supply the natural and growing nutrients and water too. Or... it may have just popped early, for some quite strange reason.
