Black Thumb?

Folks, I am so frustrated. Been here reading for quite some time now and I have found some excellent info and frankly a lot of it is very technical. My delema... i have been trying to germinate for a couple of weeks now and nada..1st attempt (bag seed..old -paper towel, cup o water, in the dark, in the light, on top of water heater, room temp) 2nd attempt (good, new seed, NL-Holland all of the above methods..nada) 3rd attempt (more redicovered bag seed, all of the above methods..nada)
I have good water here, stable indoor temps and the conditions should be whithin parameters. Can anybody ID anything I have overlooked..maybe my Rx meds are cooking my gourd..thanks in advance for any help.

You have not tried the starter plug/rockwool/rapid rooter method I had a hell of a time, and found this method to work well for me...I use Jiffy Starter plugs.

But I think my issues stem from 2 things, old seeds and low temps.

Good luck...I have seen some really talented growers on here struggle with germination.

I get almost 100% germination with putting beans in a cup o water for at least 12 hrs (till they sink), then I place them in a cup o dirt already wet (i make an indentation with my finger, place the bean in, and then cover the bean with dirt, don't press too hard). I then place them under my CFLs, and vio-la, they pop up 1-2 days later.

What he said, plus I add 1 drop per oz h2o2, and I soak in cup 24 hrs, or till they crack.

dont bury them to deep in the soil, 1/4" or so is all, i just make sure there is enough to block the light from the tap root

like discingolfer said you want the soil wet (not saturated tho). i say more on the side of well dampened. and do not pack the soil under OR over the bean, if you break that tap root your SOL

this technique always worked great for me. Except one detail; I would always add a layer of saran wrap over the top of the pot to keep the top layer of soil moist. This way the light from the cfls wont evaporate the water on the top layer of soil and dry out your seed, which would spell certain death.

Remove the saran wrap once its poked thru the surface

If the seeds are old and have not been kept airtight or in the refrigerator or something along that line then you probably need better seeds..
