alright..seeing the increasing number of threads from newer growers that are having some problems germing, i figured i'd step up, and put in my .....First off....i have tried the paper towel method once, in six years, it didn't work.......just my experience, i dont have the time nore patience to check on moisture of the paper towels, My choice is to allow the seeds to soak n chlorine- free water (room temp min. 24 hours) ......I use about 1 cup of water, and a small tupperware container w/ lid.....wrap the tupperware with a dark towel and place the tupperware inside one of the grow rooms (which ever ones warmer)....and honestly thats it.....within 24 hours i usually have a 75% success rate....my most recent germ produced 10/10 in a 48 hour period, w/ roots as long and longer than the seed.......anything that doesn't show a tap root after 72 hours i would toss. because the odds of it being viable are slim, and more than 72 hours could 'drown' the seed thats just the way i do it, everyone has there different opinions/facts, but over the years the one thing i've been able to say i've failed the least is germinating.....but i hope this is useful to some people out there that are having problems....... the main thing to remember is what works for others might not work for you, thats what led me to this method. happy growing & good luck

![]() ![]() | Thanks for the advice. I hate the paper towel method too, but that's currently what I'm using for my next batch. I killed off 20 seeds the one time because I let them dry out too much. I'm still kicking myself over that one. Despite the fact that I have plenty of seeds, I still hate to waste, you know? However, for the sake of efficiency, I like the method you've described and I'm going to germ another handful as you've described to see if I like it better. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | i often just put the seed in dirt, 2 inch pots. but the problem of the seeds drying out. wether i put the seeds in papertowels or just straight in dirt i always put the mediums inside a humidity box. now since the seeds dont need no sun yet, you could use any plastic container, just add a small hole at the top. then just check everyday or every other day. dont worry about it, they could sprout and be left in there almost a week without any later problems.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I have no clue why the paper towel method seems to be such an illusive mystery to some. wet a paper towel all of it, give it a little squeeze, drop some seeds, fold it over and seal it in anything - tupperware, zip lock or put two plates on top of each other and set it on your computer / vcr / external harddrive for warmth - done. Tap roots in 24 hrs everytime I've done it.

I just germinated 2 out of 2 seeds. Wet paper towels, cut to fit in a tupper ware container, left lid slightly off, stuck in a dark box and into the grow room. 24 hours later I had 2 germinated seeds. I have however, used the cup idea on some older seeds. I got 2 our of 4 to pop but like I said they were older seeds and the fact that the 2 even germ'd surprised me. I have read that some people put the seeds in a cup of water for 24 hours max and then into the paper towel method and have 100% results I guess it's all personal preference, I just get nervous about throwing my seeds into a body of water. that's the reason I put them in paper towels

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Take a look at this man. Again, using plates or anything else that will trap the condensation will keep your paper towels damp.

![]() ![]() | Right on, I love Agent86's Tutorials. ![]() He's definitely a hundred times more gentle with his seeds than I am with mine. I'm curious to try the submersing in water technique, just for fun if nothing else, but afterwards I'll definitely follow that instructional thread to the letter, right down to seperate paper towels for each seed. Thanks! ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ive never had any problem germinating in a paper towl myself either, i just take a couple paper towls fold them to fit in a dvd case on each side (front and back of case), moisten them with regular warm tap water, throw a few beans in there, close it up n stick it under my matress for a few days then presto, i got sprouts. im new to growing indoors but this is my second year using this method for outdoor use and ive used it twice for indoor. pretty successful for me

I just tried the paper towel method for the first time and although they were slow to start once they popped the roots got nice and long...quick. I'd like to try the next batch a different way though...see if something else works better.
