just planted germed seeds

i just planted 3 seeds that germinated out of 5 it only took 1 day for 2 of the seeds and 3 days for the last one i planted them about.... one i did almost the whole length of my finger deep and the other 2 just about 3'' how many days should it take them to sprout out of the ground?? they were planted on 8-7-08 for the first one then 8-9-08 for the last one.

In soil the deeper you plant them the longer they will take to sprout up and out. A 1/4" to 1/2" is plenty.

that is too deep. Sprouts are not very strong and they go searching for the light but the more soil on top of them the heavier the load is of soil they have to push through. If I were you I would try dusting off atleast 2 inches or so of soil where you planted them so they dont have so much to push through.

i germinate in a dish of water. when the radical (growing root) pops out, i'll make a tiny indentation in the soil and sit the seed on top so the root is covered but the seed isn't. as long as the root can find soil and moisture, it's okay.

i'll have to agree with psycho and analog, 2-3" is probably too deep.. There is a good chance they will die trying to push that far up. If you have just planted them, i'd recomend getting them to within 1/2inch, but if they've been in the ground for a while digging them up can kill them too....soo.....good luck.
