from may to september of this year i had bad luck with germing seeds, though i had about 4 or 5 sources. it was ~harrowing. in review, here's some solutions.. i just found some white seeds from a great stash i bought two years ago and figured wtf - these seeds are 2 years old and two have popped overnight, one with a 1/2" healthy radical! ![]() i germed a few dozen healthy seeds from that bag in june with no survivors. looking at this situation analytically to make this useful information.. warm temps are supposed to be good for germ.. so how come my indoor summer temps (85-90.. i don't like to blow my $ on the a.c.) had such crap results?? the warmth is only one factor.. (2) arizona. we have '5 seasons' because the monsoon creates another 'spring.' those brief rain windows probably mean that mold and fungi here have to be extra aggressive to survive, perhaps taking out seedlings. solution? modify environment.. (3) arizona. i'm pretty sure i saw more than one larval fly of some nature wriggling around my sprouts once they were in the soil.. which is probably why several rotted when they shouldn't have. hmm.. put germ bowl in a wider bowl of bleach? put a sprig of catnip (insect repellant) near sprouts?? i know this is trivial, tho the difference between a summer of "why won't anything grow?" and "wow these seeds are ancient and immature and they're germing!" might help to give someone a better shot at their germ.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | growth is okay (canopy c. 85 degrees, 80 nights) the bad germ is probably a chance combination of things adding up. monsoons begin in june and as soon as it rains, everything grows, like bugs and fungus ![]() afa strains go, the durban poison is perhaps more vigorous as the (presumably local) bag seed. so far, i'd highly recommend it.
