This is my first attempt germinate seeds. I have been reading the threads here and have not found the answer to my question...yet. I am still looking but thought someone could answer sooner than later. I have soaked the seeds in H20 for 36 hours. Two sank by themselves. The other two after I poked them. From what I have read I am ready to move them to soil. My question is what (if any) amount of light should they get? How many hours a day? Thanks DD

Thanks for the quick response. Yes that did help. Do I run the in-direct light 24/0 or 18/6 or what? Just curious, would more direct light be better or worse for them?

It depends on the lighting whether more direct would be better or worse.. Basically you dont want too strong of a light at first until they have a decent root and node growth.. just cant handle that much sun.. (usually)I have my 2 13W CFLs above my cloning tray 8-10" directly above the clones.. so they are getting direct light - just not strong direct light.. ![]()

Lighting isn't as big of a factor for germination as temperature. If the seeds are warm and moist they will germinate nice and fast, and thats regaurdless of light. In the dark I have had seeds sprout inside the paper towel, cotyledons(first set of leaves, round shape) and all It all depends on the personal set-up, light is not a bad thing, nor a good thing for germination, so it's your choice. Just think warm. 75-80F Don't cook the seeds, just keep em warm enuf so that they will grow a lil tiny taproot and become sprouts. The sprouts(seed with a tiny tap-root) will need to be moved under lights eventually. I just put em under the lights when I plant the sprout into what-ever medium, dirt, rock wool, peat pellets, coir plugs..... Hope that helps Happy holidays all

look people germinating is sooo easy all you do is take a small plate take a paper towel and put it on the plate, take some water that has been set out for atleast 24 hours wet down the paper towel put a couple good seeds on it place another damp paper towel on top of it then place a bowl upside down on it so no light can get it then place in a warm area and let it sit for 48 hours then check it, its simple i do it all the time
