ok, so this is either a papaya or an auto ak seed, i put two papayas and the one ak in some growcubes and lost track. oops. but so i was lookin in the holes to see if there was any action and this one was still not doing anything. the other seed started moving, and one was all mushy and shot so i tossed it. i pulled it out of the hole and took some paperclips and gently pulled the one side of the shell off without disturbing the inside. i set it back in the hole after i took the pic shell side up and just covered over the top lightly with some material from the growcube. i dropped a couple of drops of ph'd water with rooting hormone in it into the hole and put it back under the heat lamp. ![]() there is another pic of it under different lights down in the att's. here is the one bean that started to move, you can see the taproot goin down into the cube. i didnt disturb it at all i just covered it with material after the pic. but its from the same batch, got soaked the same amount of time, and put in the cubes at the same time. im not sure it its papaya or auto ak though. ![]() so what do you think, did i mess it up or do you think that first bean will still pop...its not too yellow and still firm, so i think it may. help... surfbum

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | From the first pic, it doesn't appear that the tap root broke free from the shell. When this happens to my seeds, they never make it.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ive mentioned this before, ill mention it again. you can germinate in clear plastic cups, with polymer water crystals. just place the cups in a warm, and fairly humid environment. you can watch the seeds through the clear cups, and semi transparent water gel. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | yeah i dont usually mess with them, but i opened this one cause the third bean i had in the cube with them got that white hairy fungus on it so i squished it and it was nasty mush. i checked this one to see if it was mushy too, wasnt tryin to play mom nature, just tryin to help it along... the shell was cracked but it looked to be having trouble so i carefully seperated the shell to check. if it doesnt it doesnt. :shrugs: just means i wont soak as long next time with fresh beans. i was just wondering based on color and look if anybody thought it would still pop? thanks for the replys. w'e'll see what happens.. surfbum

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | nope. not one of the papaya beans popped. i had no trouble with the thai's or the ak's or my bagseed beans with the same exact method. kinda pissed off about it too. but what can you do. live n learn. i wonder what the attitudes policy on bad beans in...hmmm... all five papaya beans cracked open and put out a teeny taproot, then stopped and either got stuck in the shell, or had a major catastrophe....the five my mom in law tried in the paper towel method didnt sprout either. idk wut the deal is... surfbum

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | hmm, strange , first when i got papaya, 10 out of 10 cracked and were healthy. now when i crossed this strain with 3 others. i did get that exact same problem, the head looked like this and the first 2 that this happened to, died. the third one, with a lot of tlc *mainly keeping it moist, did survive and is just fine now. that weird white unfinished head, just split into the first leaves and finally turned green..looks good now. im thinking that the first 2 couldave been saved, with a lil more misting. oh i did pull of the shell too it was ok since i misted it *with seaweedextract, maybe 30-1*
