Germination Question.
permalink

I have alway had difficulty properly germinating seeds even thogh ive got a couple grows under my belt. i am currently only germinating one seed
Whats the longest that i should wait? cuz Ive got shit luck or im doing something wrong. Also I am using bag seed. I have a paper towel soaked with water in a plate with a bowl covering it for darkness. In addition to this i have a heating pad to speed up this process.

Any advice?

Patience...sorry, sounds like you got it right. Keep temps to 85F if possible and keep towels damp/wet. If properly wet and warm, in 48 hours seed should crack open if not more ie: show some root. If growing hydro, I recommend using small rockwool cube for this since trying to transplant delicate seed to RW cube may damage root. Good Luck Tropicice32

Could be wrong, but I thought after 10 days, its probably no good mate, all though me croney, threw rags in gravel and had sprouts a lunar period later.

Peace

I always cover the bowl with plastic wrap, and then put something on top to keep it in the dark.

The plastic wrap keeps the humidity in and doesn't let the paper towel or seeds dry out too much, instead of just putting a bowl on top.

Maybe too much air is getting in? Are you keeping them moist?
How hot is the heating pad? Personally I wouldn't use one but that's just me.

the best way i found was to just fill a 12oz cup with some good soil like FFOF already moist and just put the seed in the middle of the cup pushing it down with a pen about 1/2" into soil and then top the hole off with soil but dont compact the soil or else the seedling is going to have a hard time pushing through. to keep it warm i just place a 75watt bulb a few inches away from the cup. after you get a nice sprout you can transfer it to where you intend to grow it out.

Problem with seeds from bags is they are not always mature. What colour was the seed? If it was very light in colour it may have been immature and you probably won't get anything. But, like others have said, you got to give it time. Keep it dark, warm, and moist (not wet).

I have used both cup and towel approach and I find both work very well if you have good seeds to start. I have never had to wait longer than 4 days to see a tap root. Mu success rate is probably 8/10.

Good luck dude.

Peace.

I guess that could be the case. but out of like 15 seeds i disgarded like four cuz they had dents in them. i have a couple nice looking seeds. Last night i went to home depot and picked up some good soil and just put a seed in that and watered. hopefully that will do the trick
