Just stumbled onto this while lookin up some info on Jiffy pots. Im not sure about the newspaper shes using in this clip, as it contains inks that might not be all that healthy for plants. I was thinking that plain paper shoping bags might be more sturdy and less toxic. Either way, its an interesting idea if nothing else.

the one downside to that I can see is it's gonna suck the moisture out of the medium your using and the fan / light is gonna evaporate that water quick,

other then that nice to see something different

Yea.. that occured to me once i folded one up for shits and laughs. Did work out to be very sturdy using the front of a paper shopping bag though.
Might hold up for a week or two, since you have to water pretty frequently in the begining anyway. Although I have to agree i dont think theyd work very good for any length of time or under any HID lighting.

it would be pretty cool for transplanting outdoors..
biodegradable, water permeable to (slowly) solve overwatering problems?
just dig a hole, maybe drop some rocks or sand in there for drainage, drop it in and fill the hole around it. should keep the bugs off the roots until the plant is strong enough to poke its roots through the paper.. maybe?

I know this is an older thread, but somehow I just saw it......

I have used these on veggies in an outside garden, they are so cheap it's free, and they just add mulch to the garden.

As long as its not the colored ink paper, like the vid said, it doesn't seem to hurt the plants.

it does keep bugs mostly at bay, but you kinda want a few bugs/worms anyway.

I used to poke pencil-sized holes in 'em around the bottom 1/3 and in the bottom itself to help with the roots getting out. They work great!
