Am I on the right track? The first 3 days. . .

I have two feminized Lowryder#2 seeds. 2 days ago I put one in a paper towel wet with distilled water, placed in a DVD case and put on top of a warm cable box. At the same time, I took the other seed and immediately planted it 1/4" deep into a party cup with holes poked in the bottom. No soaking, germing, cracking, etc. Soil is FFOF and perlite, 3:1 ratio, that I moistened with distilled water.

The paper towel seed cracked after 24 hours and showed a small root after another 24 hours. I then planted that one 1/4" deep in my soil mix in a 5" peat pot. Here come the newbie questions/concerns:

1. When I put the germed seed in the soil, the root was pointed to the side. I didn't want to risk harming the delicate root so I buried it like that; any problem?

2. Each pot is under its own 42w 6500k CFL 24/0. The light is more for warmth right now because the room is around 70F or less. The temp at the top of the soil is about 80F. Should I move the lights further away or is that a good temp for sprouting?

3. The humidity in the room is around 25%, how bad is it that it's so low? The soil is warm and moist and I can keep it from drying out by misting it with distilled water. Should I be using humidity domes?

4. Anything that I should be doing or that I'm doing wrong? I've spent so much time reading, researching and getting the room ready and buying stuff that I now find myself bored and wanting to see these pots of soil do something! How long will I be waiting?

Wow, quick response! I know that the root SHOULD be pointing down, but I was thinking that it was wise to not risk damaging the root by messing around with it too much. I put my faith in mother nature that the root will naturally turn itself down to take hold.

The soil has plenty of nutes for the first few weeks and my tap water has very high PH, so I thought that it was better to use distilled at first. I admit that I don't know anything about growing that I haven't read on the internet.

I hope to turn this into a journal one day when I have plants to report on!

Looks like you are on your way with a journal. As far as water...you could boil it! Or you could use rain water. I like the rain water idea 'cause it seems more 'natural. Around here, we don't get much rain in the spring/summer but, I plan on reusing what we do get!

I admit that I don't know anything about growing that I haven't read on the internet.distilled is ok to use, but you should really add cal-mag nutes to it. some simple ph down will fix your tap water. really cheap too. 20 dollars should last you a year, if not more.

I hope to turn this into a journal one day when I have plants to report on!
you have plants now... im sure the mods can make your wish come true.
