Germing problems, loseing seeds
permalink

I have had horrible luck, i obtained about 50 seeds and tried to germ 20 of them in a tubaware container(damp paper towels inside) but they never showed tap roots for 2 weeks and now i think the seeds are getting soft from the water and will adventually mold.
i took another 10 seeds, healthier looking ones and tried to use the paper towel method and i gave it 5 days but it wasnting working so i stuck them in starter pots under a heat lamp and im watering them. they have been in the soil for a week and none are sprouting.
i have about 20 seeds left but they are small and some are imature, how come my mothod isnt working? should the paper towel be in a place that is extreamly warm?

Give this a whirl.
Soak beans in a glass of luke warm water for 24hrs.

If there are any floaters after 24 hr's chances are they duds.

After 24 hrs, place beans in a damp (not soaking) paper towel. Place paper towel in zip lock bag, or your tupperware tub should do. Fill the zip lock bag with air (breath into it) and seal.
Place in a dark/semi dark environment where the temps are warm and stable. Wait 24hr's check seeds.

Hope this helps bro.

Another thing you can do is add a tidbit of H202 (hydrogen peroxide) to the luke warm water youre soaking them in. And don't immediately toss out the ones that dont pop/sink in 24hours either. Sometimes if you give 'em a little tap they'll sink.

The stable warmth is important, too. Somewhere like, say, the top of your refrigerator is a good place.

Good luck

small seeds, even seeds that look white or green, can often sprout.

dont dismiss any seed out of hand.

i wouldnt dismiss a seed that didnt sink either.

what you can do is squeeze them a little bit, if they pop, they dud.

if they hard and still wont sprout, you can scuff them a lil with a fine sandpaper.

ive had seeds take up to 3 weeks to sprout. *papertowel method*

because of that i like the papertowel method, as time goes by, some seeds will soften up, those were just duds with a hard shell. this way i can check them.

if you use heat, its better to have a closed container, perhaps a tiny hole in it or open daily. misting the papertowels as needed.

not necessarily. I just (a matter of days ago) soaked in bottled water and H202 the last 30 or so of my shittiest, palest, and softest autoflowerer seeds. I could've easily crushed 90% of them with my fingers.

I didn't think any of them would actually sprout, but I wasn't about to crush them all in my fingers without giving them a shot.

About 8 days laters I've got probably 10-15 sprouts under cfls in my closet. Albeit they are a little weak looking I think they've still got a shot.

Not sure where you could get H202? Its just hydrogen peroxide. You can get it in the health section of any grocery store... maybe I missed something lol.

i started with the paper towel method but that was still too much work.

all I do now is fill 1/4 of a glass cup with warm tap water. drop the seed in. every few hours if you have a chance, pour out the water and replace with warm water again. just dont pour out your seed. tap it down like Lord K. says after about 12 hrs. wait till the tap root barely pokes out

then you can pour out all but a little tiny bit of water, then pour the seed into your {peat pod, rockwool, or whathaveyou). No touching needed.

I have sprouted ALL my seeds with this method (except for two I could tell were immature {freebies})

make sure your seeds are fresh too
