They're as good as any other plug in the market.
Use them for cloning all the time.
You can see picks in my cloning thread.

I've had 100% success ratio with seedlings and cuttings alike in peat pellets. Personally I prefer them over starting in 1 inch rockwool cubes.

I just did a side by side test with rockwool and jiffy, I must say I was impressed with the jiffy pellets. I like rockwool, it just seems to retain a lot of water. My clones in jiffy's out rooted the ones in rockwool, also the jiffy clones never lost any green as they were rooting while the rockwool clones did yellow up some.

Ya I did side by side test too. Peat rooted faster because its softer for roots to penetrate.

Another +1 for Jiffy pellets! Just did a test of my own, I tried cloning in small solo cups(w/FFOF) and jiffy pellets. The jiffy pellet cuttings rooted way faster and I had a higher success rate using them. I also germ all my seeds in them and they work great.

if using a plug, i suggest rapid rooters

I just have a bias toward jiffy plugs though

I'm not familiar with the rapid rooters, but at looks to me like they're similar to the jiffy's but made out of different stuff that suppose to aid in rooting. For me, the jiffys work fast enough and are super cheap and convenient at wal-mart.

Usually with me I use the jiffys in my dome with cuttings or seedlings, so they absorb the water up themselves when I drench the bottom of my tray.
