![]() ![]() | nice work ... ![]() seeds also often shift themselves, whichever way they are sowed. I would suspect that these will maybe do the same if they are even going to germinate. the root will most likely do exactly what you probably have in mind ... ![]() | ||

Experiment 1: Seed placed point down into wick. Environment above microwave in kitchen cabinet.
Experiment 2: Seed placed on top of wick. Not covered. Environment is in warm electronics cabinet.
Experiment 3: Seed placed point up into wick. Environment is in warm electronics cabinet.
The high germ rate of the upside seeds is, I believe, due to the warmth of the cabinet.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The seedlings should go into my Vegetation Cabinet. But, my Vegetation Cabinet is full with clones and three plants from seed. There will be no room there for at least 10 weeks. The light in the Vegetation Cabinet is provided by three CFLs from Stealth Hydro. The seedlings are on my desk. They get light from a nearby window. I will let the seedlings grow in their Straw-Wick where they are until they cannot grow further. If I clear a place for them, I will. If I cannot clear a place for them, they will be thanked for their service and retired.

While the germination rates were bad. My main focus is on what happens to the roots when gerninated in the straw. I think that the stretch of the four successful seedlings is a result of the plant finding it easier to grow up (stretch) than to grow down (drop roots). That could be the killer to the idea of germinating in a straw with a wick. Perhaps the wick puts up too much resistance. Perhaps the top of the wick puts up too little resistance. At any rate, I transferred the four seedlings to my Vegetation Cabinet to await arrival of a root system. ... Modification Idea: Use a 3/8 to 1/2 in diameter tube filled with perlite and/or vermiculite to wick the water from a small reservoir. This, mini-Hempy, should nurture a seedling. The seedling should be easily removed from the tube for transplant.
