What happens to some trunks?
permalink

One sprout grew out of its wick then back in and down. The sprout was the slowest performing of remaining sprouts. Close inspection revealed the situation with the wick.

My scissors were too dull to cut the wick away so I un-weaved the wick from above the sprout. Removing these two or three strands of cotton, revealed the constriction of the trunk.

I noticed a similar constriction on a sprout that is now a mature plant in my current grow. That plant had a very toothpick-like stem. I had attributed this to possible sharpness or roughness of the foam. But I believe now that it was a constriction of the trunk. The plant is doing well in the garden now. That is why I believe this new sprout will do fine.

Twelve sprouts from this experiment grow in the Vegetation Cabinet. The photos show the two smallest.
