Germination means "to sprout" Sprouting can happen in the soil (like it does in nature) but can also happen in a water medium. Germinating the seeds in a cup of water will let you see which seeds are actually viable, and which ones are dead. So you only plant viable ones, and KNOW they're going to grow.

manny is beginning to sprout.

So you can just throw seeds in a cup of water and they'll sprout? How long can they stay in for?? Can they grow all the way through flowering this way??? I'm confused.

My friend and I got some baggie seeds and put them in a little hole and covered them up in the woods. It took what seemed forever but those little buggers sprouted and i was very glad.
