Hi everyone. One day I was rolling one and just for the hell of it, i threw a seed in my fish tank to see if the fish would try to eat it. lol Anyway, about 2 weeks later I notice something growing from the bottom of the tank. Damn, thats a pot plant I said to myself. It was about 4 inches long and started to get its first set of jagged leaves. I trankplanted it into a pot and put it on the porch, it was growning really well and looked very healthy. The wife didnt know what it was and yanked it so she could use the pot for some flower. Anywho, my question is. Can i germinate seeds this same way? Throwing them into the fish tank? I have never grown a plant to harvest, and have decided to go all out and build a stealth box. The reason im so interested in germinating in the fish tank is because out of all the attempts at growing. It started out as the healthest, most normal (and badass) looking plant iver ever started. How do you guys/gals start your seeds? Thanks for any input you pros can provide.

![]() ![]() ![]() | I seriously doubt that a cannabis plant would grow for two weeks underwater. Perhaps you exaggerated a bit and it just germinated.... I don't know. But no- it is not a good way to germinate seeds. Roots need air to develop.

![]() | No exaggeration, im serious. it was 3-4 inches from the seed shell when i removed it from the tank. Maybe it was a week and a half from the time i threw the seed in the tank Maybe it was a freak deal, i donno.

![]() | The more I think about it, i guess it was just germinated since the roots were just a few small hairs, anywho. Back to the question. How do you germinate your seeds?

![]() | Very nice work on that thread. A couple of questions, if you dont mind. ![]() Would it be ok to start them in a larger pot to begin with to keep for having to transplant and possably damage the roots? I got confused with the paper towel deal. You said you use three towels. Do you have two layers on top of the seed, or two layers under it? At what point can it be moved to a hid light? After the two weeks of sprouting? Last but not least, what is your choice of nutrients to feed your plants? I wanna say thanks again. You are very very helpful. I appreciate your time.

![]() ![]() ![]() | You can start them in a larger pot, with one warning. A teeny tiny set of roots planted in a great big pot allows much of the soil to sit stagnant while the roots are filling in. If you keep this pot too wet the soil just sits and sours. If you are attentive to watering issues, it will be fine. I start in small cups because my indoor area is small. Number of paper towels doesn't matter- 2/3 whatever. That was easy ![]() Two weeks is a good time to put them under HID- start slowly and watch for heat stress- leaves will start to point straight up if they get too hot. I feed a strictly organic mix- most of my nutes are mixed when I make my soil. I am now recommending Alaska Fish Farm brand- the specific products are "Start-Up"(2-1-2) and "Mor-Bloom"(0-10-10). If you can't (or don't want to) mix a great soil, these are great and simple products to use. No nasty tasting chemicals either. There are plenty of other good brands, too.
