![]() | About a week ago I wanted to start a new batch of MJ, so I read a lot of posts and figured out the the paper towel method works best for a lot of people. I went to the store, bought brand new zip lock bags, paper towel, and spring water. I folded the towel, wet it, put about 10 good MJ seeds in it, put it in the zip lock, and put it on my monitor for heat. Since then, nothing has even begun to germinate. Also, when I opened the bag there was a skanky smell (like dirty laundry), I can't imagine how it got there because all materials were brand new. Anyone know what the smell is or why my seeds aren't germinating?

![]() | You might have too much water, and or heat. Try to aim for a temp of 70 deg. Hold your paper towel up and let it drain till it dosn't drip any more. Also keep them in a dark place. Think that's it.....anyone else got an idea? mr g ![]()

![]() | The smell is probably mildew or mold. It doesn't really matter that its all new stuff, because mold and mildew can multiply every 20 minutes in a perfect environment, and there were probably already a few thousand microbes on each of those seeds. Your near-perfect environment of a warm, moist, and dark environment could easily have spawned enough of this stuff to get a funky smell going. I would only recommend the paper towel idea if you were using genetics that were going to be very difficult to find again, and only if you knew exactly how to do it. A much better environment is to just plant them about a 1/2 inch deep in some soil in some peat pots or some halves of egg shells and lightly spray the soil with hot water until it looks saturated. I like to do this because its a great germinating environment and you don't have to worry about overwatering or damaging the seeds with rough handling. - War

![]() | Thanks Warloc. Your ideas sound good and I think I will follow your advice. I just bought some "miracle-gro" potting soil and put a few seeds in it, then watered it. That should do the trick right? About how long will they take to sprout?

![]() | Mr.Green : the paper towel was just wet, not soaking wet, I learned about that from reading previous posts As for the temp., I think it might be the problem, it goes from very hot (my monitor produces lots of heat) to very cold at night when the monitor is off, I don't really have a way of regulating the temperature. Another Q' for Warloc, if I plant them deeper than 1/2" (maybe 1" or even 2"), will they still sprout eventually or will I just be burying them?

I'm not too sure about the blech thing.... I'd just get new paper towel, baggie, and do it again. Make sure you wash off the seeds too before you put them into the new bag. I planted my seeds 1" down in my soil and they came up just fine. mr g ![]()
