Warloc, my theory on the keeping seeds cold before germination is this; You are simulating nature itself. Seeds produced in the wild in one season will lay dormant in colder temperatures until the next growing season. Having done a lot of tests on fresh seeds, this method has produced better results.

No one said that bleach will help seedlings, we are talking about germination of seeds here. Bleach does not help the seeds to grow but rather helps protect them from impurities in the water. The bleach prevents mold from forming as well since you do germinate in a moist environment and some seeds can take over 4 or 5 days to open. Just to note, I did have a client who had terrible success with cloning. He was using well water and achieved only 30% to 40% success. By adding some bleach to his water, he did note an increase in his success rate to about 70%-80%. A lot of folk use well water or rain water and there are too many impurities in them.

If I'm not mistaken, don't they all? They are usually covered up by a panel on top inside the fixture. Little black thing a ma jiggy.

quote:
Very true, pH is one of the few things that can hinder growth in a viable seed. Bleach is very poisonus (chlorine) and it will increase pH to dangerous levels.

Well at least we agree on the PH, but if you have an outdoor pool, you'll notice that even a high increase in chlorine hardly affects the PH level. Chlorine is poisonous but only in high doses. We drink chlorine everyday in our tap water and in small amounts it will not cause harm to your seeds. Even Mel Frank and Ed Rosenthal suggest a small amount to be used during germination, you can read this yourself in the Marijuana Grower's Guide.
