![]() | Hi there, I have some germinated seeds planted in rockwool ready for my hydro system. I also have some seeds in soil. They were all planted at the same time but the seeds in the rockwool have not emerged whilst the ones in the soil already have sprouted. I have all seeds in dixie cups with plastic wrap over the top to keep in the moisture (except the not sprouted ones which are 1" under a 30w fluro light.) 1) What should I do to get the ones in the rockwool to sprout? It has only been 3-4 days but I am worried that they wont sprout becuase the soil ones already have. 2) When is a good time to move the plant/sprout from under the 30W Fluro to the 1000w HPS? 3) Should the non sprouted seeds be kept in the light or in the dark? Thanks for any help you can give. Jason

![]() | Jason, Welcome to HC.com. Maybe I can help you answer a few of those questions. If I understand correctly, the rockwool seeds have not sprouted, right? Being that it has only been three or four days, I would say wait about 3 more, and if they don't popup, then you've got a couple of duds. You do have to prepare rockwool in a little different manner than most other mediums. I'm sure you know about soaking it to nutrilize pH levels. Usually a soultion of about 5.5-5.9 pH for 24hours is a good enough time frame. After that you have to pretty much water them every day to keep the rockwool moist, unless you're using large cubes. (3x3 I think) Now to answer your questions... 1: Patience Grasshopper. If after 7 days they haven't done anything, then it's time to invest in a new batch of seeds. Otherwise just give them some time. 2: When they have developed their first set of "Fingered" leaves. That's when the plant is no longer a seedling and is considered in the vegetative grow cycle. As far as that 1000 w is concerned, be gentle with it at first. Start it very far away (48" or so) and move it slowly downward until it reaches the desired height off the tops. Remember the little ones are fragile, so immediate intense lighting can cause undue stress. 3: Non-Sprouted seeds need a dark environment primarily one that is warm. Think of yourself as a surrogate mother nature, and provide the conditions that she would. Seeds usually germinate underground in the dark, right? Where it's nice and warm. Then after they burst through the soil they're ready for that little flouro. Hope I could help...keep me posted...and start a grow journal... --Titus
