I'm right about to germinate my seeds and will be using this method. I'm just wondering what the initial water temperature should be? Cold? Warm? Or does it matter?

Thumbs up Exactly what I needed to read, Plains!

Excellent description and photos, PlainsMan! I'm going to follow in your footsteps! The new grow-show starts today! Thanks for the detail (floating seeds don't germ) and the specific advice! GREAT thread!!!

FireAngel

P.S. 5-star rating for this thread. I support the idea of making this a sticky, just like Agent86's plate method (that worked for me last time). Grow ON, man!

More self discipline and control, less eating drinking and being merry as if the Apocalypse could happen tomorrow, tho it still could, haha. Less newspaper and more books to remediate my pessimistic global outlook. Fewer cigarettes, with more time for productive vocal, guitar, and bass rehearsal. This is my plan to earn both my halo and my wings of fire in the new year.

Hey, you're welcome. I'm glad if somebody finds this thread helpful.

Still using the water germination method, find it's the easiest way to germ seeds that I've tried.

Hope all your gardens are growing good.

malibu is starting to vegetate.

I've used the "cup" of water method for years -

actually it is a pyrex glass pudding cup with distilled water that has been brought to a near boil then allowed to cool to room temperature before dropping in seeds - it is then covered with space for air circulation so it is dark and put in a dark area in a cabinet under the sink.

Tap water may be good enough but depends on your municipal water supply and your pipes, so I don't take chances especially if Heaven's Stairway seeds.

With no worry about any paper towels drying up, I do not even look at it for a couple days, and immediately plant them.

Has always worked great !

lmdesade is starting to vegetate.

I love using pure perlite baby!!!
Whether I go soil or soilless. 3" of perlite in a cup or small pot 1/2"-1" of water in the bottom. That's why I use clear container alot. The perlite wicks the water and keeps everything moist not wet....
