It works for me although the White Russians were a disaster. The same soak time, soil, dome and care throughout. I'll be making contact with Serious Seeds today and see if they can give any feedback. Only 5 Russians popped whhen 14 of the 15 Chronics popped. Same everything as I say and I'll be updating to see what Serious say.

I notice some things lying on top of your soil. What are they?

them are tags so when you plant diff. strains you will be able to know what is what so say if plant a reg bag seed and a diff strain you mark them so you will know where the bag seeds are and the other strain is. alot of people use them around here alley17cat i know uses them do a search on alley17cat that is the only one that comes to mind right know that i know uses them

hope it helps you out some

I know this an old thread but I noticed Burnsy had a real problem with his White Russian seeds. 11 out of my 11 WRs germed with 48 hours and popped out the soil within 3 days. Soaked em for 18 hours then wet cotton wool for another day or so. Maybe he was just plain unlucky...

The Fix is in is beginning to sprout.

Dude, I have to give major props to Plainsman for this thread. This is my first grow, and I'm glad I read this right before germination began!

I haven't recieved my "real seeds" from Nirvana yet, but the cup of water germination gave me an 85% germination rate for all of the bag seeds that I've accumulated over 3 months. Got over 60 viable seeds sunk at the bottom, and about half have started to show their roots.

Because they were old seeds, I only expected to get at most 15 to 20. I am so amazed!

[quote=plainsman1963;703978]Ok, so I keep seeing folks debating different methods of germination and since I am firing up my grow room again, I thought I would take the time to show my personal favorite germ method.

When I first started out, I tried the paper towel method. TBH, I hated it.

First, trying to keep the towels moist, but not too moist and then trying to extract the germed seeds from the soggy mess when ready was a real PITA for this particular grower.

I don't remember where I first heard of the cup of water method, but I decided to try it and I fell in love with the hands off, no attention needed aspect of this particular method.

So, first I put some water in a cup. Just regular old tap water, not ice cold yet not warm either. I like to call it tepid.
Basically as close to room temperature as I can guesstimate.

Next I throw some seeds in the cup of water.

Now, I want to apologize for the lack of quality in regards to the pictures I am about to show. I have a cheap under $50 dollar digital and to get good quality pics requires a lot of picture taking, stair climbing, computer uploading, stair descending, picture taking, stair climbing...etc.

TBH, I have better things to do with my time. So as long as you can recognize the visual and it illustrates what I am trying to say...I call it good.

First, here are the seeds right after I place them in the cup:

and

I then place the cup in a dark closet on a shelf in room temperature (70-72 degrees) and forget about them overnight.

The next morning (12 hours later) I look at the cups and see how many have sunk. Any still floating I dunk with my finger to see if they will sink.

Past experience has told me that any floaters are not going to be viable.

[ht/QUOTE]

Whats good homie its my first time doing this. Last night i started the seeds in a cup. If I plan to grow out side do i still need the 1000 watts.

Technically, you don't need any light until they are planted and break the surface of the soil, so if you are going to plant your germinated seeds outside...No light required.

Guide to pot growing trustworthey?

I saw a post about "the canabis growers bible". Has anyone ever heard of this site or an equivalent that has straight up directions in one place. There is so much information here, which is wonderful. But it is a little daunting for me trying to hop around and find it.
