title pretty much says it all...ive sucessfully germinated seeds from bagseed before...but this time a buddy of mine gave me seeds from buds he had been keeping in the freezer...anyone have any experience with germinating frozen seeds before? since this is my first attempt at using frozen seeds
keeping temps between 70-80F high RH..germing in peat pellets...attempting to germ 15 seeds

No one answered probably because the site was temporarily bye bye. If I were able to answer the question, I would've said...most likely! I once froze a few jalapeno peppers and when spring arrived I decided to give it a try. Keep in mind this was over 6months later. I also used peat pots but I got a 100% germ rate. I know MJ has a pretty low average germination rate, but I wouldn't think 7 out of 15. Who cares though, you got them to germinate. Right on!

Weed makes seeds.
Weed dies and the seeds fall to the ground.
Snow covers the ground.
Spring arrives and new plants sprout from the seeds that have lain on the frozen ground all winter.

How would the plant propogate if the seeds couldn't survive the winter?

i know that the plant drops seeds into the dirt wich frezzes in many cases...but the fact that the freezer these seeds were stored in is extremley cold and the seeds were in there for along time since he usually gets a pound at a time...
just didnt know if the extreme cold over a long duration like that would effect the nature of the seeds...considering that its usually not that cold for the extended periods that the freezer provided, anywere that the plants would be thought to grow in the wild..
either way...anyone else whos wondering the same thing now has somewhere to look to find the answer...yes they can still sprout even if frozen to an very low temp for a few months

also yes 6.99999999 sprouts hehe...calculators and all..theyre exact even if they are wrong..but ya 7 sprouts

Short answer: It depends

Some seeds *need* to winter over in order to sprout, but MJ isn't one of them. It depends on the strain. An all indica plant will have a better chance of sprouting from frozen seeds because this strain evolved in higher elevations where snow is likely. Sativas will less likely to do well after being frozen because they evolved in tropical/subtropical regions that rarely experience snow.

If the seeds were in a well sealed, humidity controlled package they will probably do OK. if they were very wet when they were frozen, it's possible the water crystals can work into the shell of the seed and wreak havoc. Well dried bud (and thus seeds) will fare better in the freezer.

I'm happy they did cause I once saw on cops, this guy got busted for

having a Grow-Op in his house and he had the biggest bag of seeds in

his freezer and the cops said it was very common to keep them there so they

wouldn't grem.
