![]() | Hey im a new grower and have some questions about germination: 1) how exactly do u do it? cant u just plant the seed directly into the soil? will it still grow? 2) also, will it affect the plant if u dont use any nutrients while growing? can u grow a good plant with just soil, water and a proper amount of light, no fertilizers? If you could help with any of these questions it would be greatly appreciated, ive seen the grow guide but it assumes i know about certain techniques so it didnt help much. Thanks!!

It's not hard and it definitely speeds things up. You can never tell what the seedling is doing if you just drop it into some dirt and water it. Check this out... http://www.hempcultivation.com/420/s...5&pagenumber=1 This guy takes his seeds and puts them on a wet papertowel between two plates, then puts it in his desk. It takes about 2-5 days to germinate a seed.

1) You can germinate without using the paper towel method, some prefer it. Just water your soil good and make sure its packed down a LITTLE, dont pack it down hard though. poke you a hole about 1/4 to a 1/2 inch. no more or it will take longer to get to the topl drop your seed in and cover it lightly, till it sprouts just gently spray water on the top of the soil so that you dont interrupt the seedlin IF your gonna use the paper towel method then I recomend that you put some heat under it. that will make it sprout quicker the link dankmann gave you is a good explanation![]() 2) No, I made the same mistake before. You gotta feed'em Hope this helps you and goodluck and..... Welcome to Hemp Cultivation!!!! Smoker ![]() Last edited by Smoker4life420; 06-23-2001 at 08:16 AM..

![]() | you can just put the seed right in the soil without germinating (thats what i do) , or another good method is to poke a hole about an inch deep with your finger in the soil and fill it half full with vermiculite and then put the seed in and fill the rest of the whole with vermiculite. That has worked very well . . .

![]() | Whether you stick it in dirt or do it in a paper towel......you are still germinating the seed. Once the roots have popped out and the first round leaves (cotyledons) unfold...the plant is now a seedling. IMO...an inch is too deep.....takes too long for the seed to get up to the surface. 1/4 to 1/2" is fine. The seedling will not need to be ferted for the first 2 or 3 weeks. It has nutrients provided from the seed to get it through the beginnning. But...after that.....yes....the plant will need to be fed. After the nutes in your dirt are used up...the plant will have no food and will die....so...feeding is a must. cy ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I have modified the 'paper towel' method and I get a 95-100% germination rate... This is how I do it: First I get a kitchen sponge (new) and place it into a bowl a little bigger then the sponge the take the paper towl and fold it to it fits on the sponge and has a "lid" on. Then I mix some warm water with a little Schultz Expert Bloom Plus and fill the bowl up untill the sponge is about 1/2 way covered. Then put the seeds under the Paper towel 'lid' and put the lid down. Now just mist the top of the paper towel untill wet and place in a closet. Keep an eye on the water level, just make sure it dosent dry out and in about 2-3 days you'll have sprouts!! This keeps the seeds moist enough but never too wet that they mold.. Kinda like a wick hydro set up for your seeds.. Almost fool proof. Anyways just mt $.02.. St0ney Keeping the Rky Mtn's High ![]()

Hey st0ney, New kitchen sponges are treated with chemicals to inhibit moulds. I would guess that is why you don't get any. I found out the hard way. A couple of years ago I was cleaning out my Goldfish bowl. I decided to use a clean sponge to do the job. Fish in bucket, empty water, clean sides and bottom, fill with fresh water, reintroduce fish when temp. is right. 2 hours later my fish were dead and had started new careers as floaties. I have kept fish for decades and this was a first. Beware of chemicals. drongo

ThanksI wonder If you could soak it in bleach and water for a while to clean the anti-mold Chem off? Anyways.. I've never had a problem in germitating on a sponge and paper towel, even with the antimold chem on the sponge. Maybe the paper towel provides a 'barrier'..? Or the chemical on the sponge dosent effect the germinitaing seeds? I've been growing for a few years now and always use the same method to germiniate my seeds and always get 95-100% So I wouldn't think that it bothers them...But You never know..... Anybody know more about this chemical on the sponges? I would like to learn more about this... I'll see what I can find out on the internet.. Later, St0ney Keeping the Rky Mtn's High![]()
