Feminised Seeds
permalink

Has anyone grown the feminised seeds before?

Are they really a guarantee for female plants or just better odds on getting females?

Any info would be nice, I'm going to order but I'll pay the extra to guarantee femmes.

Hello Digital T,
Feminized seeds come from the Dutch Passion seedbank and have recieved mixed reviews as the process does not gaurentee females, it just skews the ratios toward female gender. The extra cost often negates the all female promise, for a cheaper price you can buy standard seeds.

OZ - Always a pleasure hearing from you.

TY for the precise answer, In that case I usually get 60/40 odds on femmes, usually 60 in femme favor, so I think I'll save the extra for more of the standard seeds.

TY again, you saved me lots of cash.

Feminized seeds are not new. SSSC sent me all female seeds (amsterdam delight) 15 years ago. They abandoned them. I wrote them and they said temp, humidity, fert regiments made some into males. I never had a problem with them. By the way they didn't charge me more for them. The term for them is monacious....Spelled wrong?

feminised seeds really earn their worht in a small outdoor plot with only a few plants.
I had only 5 plants growing outdoors, 1 of which was cut down by a strimmer (GRRRRR) and if it wasn;t 4 the feminised seeds i;d have a pretty piddly harvest.
If u've got the time and facilities to check for fems then it's not worth the cost. On large scale outdoors it really isn;t worth it because fo the cost and u will get plenty of fems anyway.
hope thats helped

SINSE SEEDS
It is possible to cross your favorite two female plants to create a new strain of seeds that will produce all female plants. Preferably, these two plants will be different types of plants, not from the same mother's seeds.

This will create the best offspring, since it will not lead to inbreeding. It is easier to gauge the quality of female plants than male plants, since the smoke is more potent and easier to judge it's finer qualities. Plants from seeds created in this fashion will be all female plants since there will be no chance of male chromosomes from female parents.

Use Gibberellic Acid on one branch of a female plant to induce male flowers. Gibberellic Acid is sold by nursery supply houses for plant breeding and hybridizing. Spray the plant once every day for 10 days with 100 ppm gibberellic acid. When the male flowers form, pollinate the flowers of your other target female plant you have selected. Just pollinate one branch unless you want lots of seeds!

Which is it Oz ?

tell you what guys!! I just bought 20 mseeds that are "female" seeds from DP. white window, oasis, budda, and mazar. I plan to germinate them in a few weeks, I plan to use about 6 of them. I will keep a journal on them and see how good they really are compared to the regular seeds. I will keep you all informed on the progress, that way we all know..
ohh and they weren't but $80 for 10 seeds of white window "female" so it didn't cost more.
cxheers guys

There seem to be so many different threads in so many different forums about this same thing. I'd recommend you all check out Advanced Tactics>Propagation>Questions about hermaphrodites **Need Mod Help** started by my old Buddy St0ney.
Mainly because there's a really really (long and) interesting post by MEEEEE in there.
I still believe that light patterns can affect whether or not a plant's genetically inherited tendency to hermaphrodise is encouraged or stifled, and that it is more likely to happen if plants are vegged at 24/0 However it seems that others have used these hours and not seen any herming so.................

It may be a lot to ask and more hassle than you can be bothered with HGirl, but it would be great if you could have say 1/2 the plants veg at 24/0 and veg the other 1/2 @ 18/6 A sample of 20 "feminised" seed ought to show a fairly good result I mean for example if 90% of the 24/0 s hermed and none of the 18/6 s did then I personally would be prepared to consider that as pretty conclusive myself. Like I say it could be a lot of hassle like if you had the one growroom and had to keep moving 1/2 the plants back and forth so don't feel bad if u can't be doing with it. After all there's no pressure, just remember that we're all counting on you that's all.

Green Man

PS
BTW thanks Digital, have to say I'm a bit surprised that one of this site's mod's seems to be saying that what it says in this site's Grow Guide is incorrect.
Oz maybe you're saying that DP are using a different method which doesn't work too well ? Or maybe just like the rest of us lazy B'stards you just haven't bothered to read any of the Grow Guide either ??
