Should I grow chronic?
permalink

Hi everyone. I've been studying different types of weed seeds and how to grow them today, and I think I'm getting a better idea of how it works. A little at least. For the price and yield, it seems to me that chronic may be the best choice for my first attempt. I've read that the yield is between 350-600 grams --- is that per plant? Also, I'm growing outdoors, and I was wondering how this plant does in that environment. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

'Is that per plant"?
What else could it be?
It refers to dried bud.

If you're growing outdoors, you should pick a strain that's suited for your location.
Some strains don't like high humidity, for example, others do.
Most importantly, check your almanac for first fall frosts. You want a stain that finishes before that.
For instance, if your first frosts don't come till say Dec., any strain will do.
However, if they come in mid-Oct., you'll need a fast-finishing strain.
As a general rule of thumb, add flowering time to mid-Aug.

*the above dates are for the western hemisphere, with apologies to all our down-under friends.

Peace out

i am only new to this growing weed but i know enough about it, if you have never grown plants before just put and few seeds in a pot outside and see how it goes theres nothing wrong with trying and if those seeds take off well you will be a happy man, just remember if they take off put each plant in it's own pot as soon as you can.

golgotha- Winner is right- there are temperature and light issues you need to check out before you choose a variety.
There is a first/last frost date in my sig- look up your location and find out when your growing season begins and ends.
I'd lose a week or two on each end to allow for odd weather, then you'll know how long your season is.

Will you start your seedlings indoors for a few weeks before you set them out?
I highly recommend it. The first couple of weeks are the most crucial and most easily messed up. And doing so will give you a 3-4 week jump on the season.

But get your growing season figured out before you choose a variety. You could give us a rough location if you need help.

Thank you for the advice. Every bit really helps. And since you asked, I live in South Florida, the *sunshine* state. No frost here. Good for Chronic?

golgatha-
I am doing outdoor as well, and I chose to try Chronic as one of the several strains for my next grow. In my research, I saw that Chronic was mostly recommended for indoor, but was do-able outdoor. I like coloring outside the lines a little, so I thought I would try it -- sounds too good to pass up, and hey, it's just a few seeds.... why not?

Have you checked out cannagenetics.com, or cannabis-strainbase.com? They have a lot of info you can pool together for cross-referencing with the seedbank catalogs.

hope you find the info you seek!

You're in my neck 'o the woods!!
Great growing climate if you learn to work around the weather.

I will humbly suggest that you consider working with Mother Nature instead of fighting her. Sativa and sativa dominant plants do very well here in the summer and fall... heck, all year round.

I would just caution you against having any indica or indica dominant variety set up to flower in the late summer/fall. Remember the 40 days and 40 nights of thunderstorms we had this summer? That is not good for a flowering indica- mold will get you, and they just finish poorly. My indicas are all scheduled to flower from say now until April or so when the light changes.

And remember that when you say "I'm growing outdoors" in a discussion you need to remember that South Florida plays by different rules than the rest of the country gardening wise. We have seasons, bugs, and other issues that most folks either don't know about or overlook. If you get conflicting info, that's probably why.

Yield: 600 grams

That is per square meter, not per plant. Hope that clears things up.

BTW, that would be 21.16oz per plant, or 1.32 pounds.

Strain Profile:

We started with Serious Seeds Chronic plant then added power plant from Africa which added THCV which so many patients like myself have fond to relieve neuropathy pain better than anything else ever seen. I then took my pure Haze male and crossed it back to these females for several generations until we stabilized taste, the resulting plant is strongest smoke available to grow outside we have produced yet. Grows ok inside but like all strains with Haze we recommend using mothers and flowering clones at 10 inches in sea of green setup. Has been imitated in California many times but with Haze father it diminishes every generation away from this cultivar. Plants flower under 21 hr.'s of darkness and harvest outside at end of Sept./first week of Oct., finish in 9/10 weeks from start indoors.

(The above is from one of the addresses Selene posted above. Sounds good for outdoors.)

I too am looking for a good outdoor strain. Didn't find much on Cronic, but found this cronic cross w/ Haze.
Any expierence with this?, other outdoor strains you are thinking about?

Cobra II--
I believe the estimate given is per plant, per sq/m would be very inefficent way of determining yield.

And the estimate's are best case scenario, better stated as "as much as".
It of course doesn't allow for the dozens of variables.
This year I also had a plant whose yield was estimated at 600 grams. It was grown in the best soil with the best nutrients and lots of sun.
But amost a month of 100+ temps and 3 weeks of smoke from the Biscuit (Ore.) fire cut my yield WAY down.

Peace out
