![]() | Yo JimiC, To answer your question: "other side of the house ... to get to the males to the females you need to go about 5 yards up, 20 yards across the roof, and 5 yards down ..." I know that's not far enough away, given the winds & insects etc. but I'm not too concerned about seeding this time around. This is an early forced 12/12 flowering harvest, partly to sex out the males, and partly for an early smoke. By the time I take in my real natural 12/12 flowering harvest, 3 months away, the only sign of any male will be pollen in a bag, dried out from my male pollen donor, who, since we last spoke, has already been culled. See here for more detail ... Outside garden And yes, it's not far away enough ... I can already see pips forming on some heads ... but I'm not too stressed. So here's my chance to slip in a quick contextual question: When the fertilised seeds on a plant are ripe & ready (i.e. hard, not able to be crushed) ... is this an indication of a good time to harvest the heads for smoking, or by the time the seeds are ripe, is it too late, or too early ?

I pollinated some of my Neville's Haze late in the flowering period- harvested the buds weeks ago... but just took the branch with seeds last week. A cold spell hit and delayed the seed formation- it took them 5 weeks to mature. If I had pollinated a top branch a partial harvest would have been complicated.

I'm aiming to do some partial fertilisation in March on my outside babies using the saved male pollen. Do you have some tips on how to succesfully get some isolated buds with seeds and not allow the whole plant to get fertilised ? From what I know so far, I should wait for a windless day, and using a soft paint brush, carefully brush some pollen onto a bud on an isolated lower branch. Then, inflate a large clear plastic bag, and wrap around the primed bud securing with a wire tie-strip to isolate the bud in its own sealed airspace. Any tips or comments ... How long do I need to keep the bag on ? (to prevent the loose pollen from going everywhere) Should I remove and reinflate the bag every day ? Getting way off the forum & thread topic here ... so please move this to the correct place ... but don't forget to answer the question ![]() Back to the thread ... Final Update out of 14 plants: 1 x 100% confirmed male 4 x 100% confirmed hermie 9 x 100% confirmed female plants All sexing complete: First plant sexed @ day 13 of 12/12 (male) Last plant sexed @ day 28 of 12/12 (female) (most plants sexed by day 21 of 12/12) And while we are here ... festive Xmas Greetz to all the green people. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() | You only need to leave the bag on for a day. Remove it very carefully then mist or rinse off the plant to germinate any stray pollen that got out. I use a paper bag so the plant can still breathe- fact is I collect the pollen in the same paper bag, tie it around the bud I want pollinated, shake it a bit, then leave it. I think plastic is a bad idea- no air, too much humidity trapped. Be careful if you intend on collecting and storing pollen- it's tricky under the best of circumstances.

Thanks for the info ... Would you do me the favour of explaining why a partial harvest would have been more complicated if you had pollinated a top branch. Is this because by the time you were ready to harvest, you would still be waiting for the seeds to ripen ? Thanks ps: Hope you & yours had a great xmas. ![]()
