I like the guide, and I started some seeds yesterday (10/9/02) using exactly your method. However, when I checked this morning, 24 hours after they began, the paper was dry/slightly dank and still no root. Would the dry but hot weather have messed up the seeds? To fix it I dribbled some more water, which was lukewarm, back over the towels and placed the plate back on top. BTW, the plates are on top of a heating blanket intended for a pillow case . Thanks for the guide though; the part about scooping instead of pushing the holes into the dirt has been my problem in the past I believe. Thanks again ![]() --gneugen--

You needed to get the paper towel wetter than you did to start. You want the paper towels wet enough that if you held it up by a corner, the water should stay in the paper towels, & if you then squeezed them lightly, water would come out. Dribbling more water onto the paper towels was the right thing to do. Check them more often to make sure the paper towels don't dry out this time. Your dry hot weater should not mess up your seeds unless you have them sitting in the sun. Later. 86.

The next 2 pics, will be the last pics I post in this journal. If you want to see what happens with these plants, you will need to check out my new grow journal when I get it started. To transplant from dirt to hydro you need to very carefully remove as much of the dirt as possible, without breaking off too many of the roots. Do this very carefully. Squeeze the root ball in your hands, letting most of the dirt fall off. (This is easiest when the dirt is dry) Then rinse as much of the rest of the dirt off as possible, under 75 to 80 degree water . You are now ready to place your seedling into whatever hydro medium you want to use. Here's a pic of how much dirt is still attached to the roots when I placed it into the clay pellets. A little dirt left on the roots, won't hurt anything.

Your absolutely right. I was just telling 99 that I'm never growing in soil again. I've already got the rockwool for the clones for my SOG grow, coming up in a couple of months. Later Bro. 86.

Notice the smile this time as four out of the 6 have popped up so far. One of the seeds was defunct from the start so I wasn't hoping for much from it. However, the others had the striations as you suggested and I adjusted the moisture level and pop! Thanks a ton for the guide, as I'm sure it has helped more than my meager grow ![]() --gneugen--

I know I said I used Miracle Grow soil with no perlite added. I should have clarified that better. You should mix your soil 50/50, soil to perlite. The only reason I didn't, was that I was out of perlite & to lazy to drive to town to get more. Later. 86.
