![]() | one of my friends recently told me that placing seeds into a small amount of Heineken that is left back in the bottle for a couple of days helps encourage growth from the seeds when planted in soil. If anyone has ever heard of this method of germinating seeds, tryed it or knows if it holds any truth please leave a message. But in the mean time I have tryed this with 10 different seeds and await to see its results. I will keep everyone posted

![]() | Wow, LoL, never heard of that one buddy. I'd be interested to know if it workes, if they sprout under less than a day i'd use that method. Keep me posted on your results, I would appreciate that. AmateurDelights

![]() | so far it has been basically 24 hours and all 10 seeds are still floating at the top of the beer, But i am not quite sure if I should leave the seeds in there for about another 48 hours then plant in normal potting soil. Or if i should leave the seeds in the beer and see if they crack and sprout. I heard if you leave it there to long it will saturate the seed making it drown to the bottom of the bottle which basically means the seed would no longer be any good to plant. But i guess i'll take this oportunity to experiment with the two different options. Within the next 48 hours i will take out 5 of the seeds and then plant them in some ordinary potting soil and see what happens to them. And as for the other 5 seeds i'll leave them in the beer to see what exactly will happen to them if they will sprout or not. I'll keep everyone posted

![]() | ok well ts been 48 hours and well 6 out of the 10 seeds sank to the bottom of the beer and the other 4 seeds seemed to be floating ok at the top of the beer. But anywayz i have placed the four seeds into 4 different jiffy peat pots which are filled with "Schultz" professional potting soil. as for the other 6 seeds i placed three into one pot and 2 into the other just to see if they are really dead or if they could survive. I know i said i would leave 5 of the seeds in the pot to see if they would survive but it didn't seem to promising so i just planted all of them. Right now the plants are sitting inside of the "Jiffy Strips greenhouse" which is placed inside of a large cardboard box that i coated the inside with tin foil. I am not to sure if i should leave them in the dark or place some light on them? If anyone has any ideas please don't hesitate to share them with me.

![]() | Hey there Lankz, i'm sorry the Heiniken thingy didn't work for ya, I think your buddy owes you an apology for the waste in seeds. For germinating, the best way i've come up with goes like this; First off, lemme tell you i'm 16, so i'm not no bud expert. Well, you should get some paper towel, get 'em nice and wet, not to wet. Then wrap the seeds up in mutiple paper towels, next place 'em in a zip-lock bag half way open. ( one of my seeds germinted over a 1/4 inch in les than 24 hours = ) ). Make sure you're germinating in a dark, warm place. This works best although I just placed mine behind my TV where it's dark and warm. I dunno how good the conditions were. To let you know how my plants are doin, well for my first time, I have some nice green plants. Plant one is about 2 inches tall-real green. Plant 2 got germinated a few days, and I planted it in the soil soon after germination and within a couple days it sprouted. Plant three just got planted today. Well, keep me posted and take it easy. ![]() | thanx alot but i have tried germinating the seed in a ziplock bag but i didn't have the best success rate with that matter of fact none of my seeds germinated. But i did exactly what you did except i closed my ziplock bag ( could that have been the problem??). and also i left it on top of my computer monitor but to me it seemed kind of hot. My paper towels stayed damp but no seeds germinated why is that????

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Why on earth do you guys think you need to germ seeds some weird funky way? It wouldn't do anything special to the plant even if it did work ... take a seed plant it and give it plain ol h2o that's all it needs to sprout ![]() You guys crack me up ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

![]() | We have to make allowances for those who venture outside the envelope. I'm sure that the guy who insisted removing the male plants from the females didn't get invited to a lot of parties in the beginning of his research either!>;-) Either way, I personally don't care for that beer, so my only concern would be for the seeds.>;-) Lank, the best way to germinate is to simply fold some paper towels into a saucer, place the seeds in it, cover it with the towels and moisten with warm water. Place another saucer on top, then place that on top of a heating pad - or something as warm - and set it to medium. The temperature just needs to be consistent enough to do the job, otherwise the seeds get confused or overly soaked. There are many variations to this, but the consistency thing is the one variable that can't be altered. Seeds should sprout in about four days - seven the latest. Just remember that even if doesn't sprout in that time, it doesn't necessarily mean the seed is dead. When did my status on board change to gardener, and how do I put more than one smilie on my posts?

![]() | Yeah, its important to keep it simple. Beer has a low alcohol content, so it is a good place for bacteria and fungus to grow. This can be detrimental to seeds. Just put some seeds in water with a small amount of bleach to stop the fungus that may attack them. As soon as you see a tap root erupt from the seed, plant it in moist soil. Be careful not to touch the root when handling. Orientation in the soil is not critical. Try Shultz soil, I have had great results with it. I have had a hell of a time with Miricle Grow soil, its seems too dense. droogie

![]() | thanks alot everyone for your replies, they helped alot which gave me a better understanding of what to do. The seeds which I planted have not sprouted from soil or anything. I have decided just to start a new set of seeds to try and germinate, the method i have chosen is to use paper towels. But I was wondering if it would work with the paper towels inside of a sealable plastic container like those ziplock or glade disposable containers. I figure if the seeds are in the container in lukeware water and the container is closed, there would be humidity in the container and the paper towels would retain there moisture and stay pretty warm. I don't know if its true but if anyone out there knows if this is a legitimate way to germinate seeds it would be greatly appreciated for any help or suggestions you have.
