If you want to germinate your seed(s) in soil-- make a depth of about 1/4-1/2inch, pop the seed in and loosely cover back up. The root will be the first thing that pops out and the laws of gravity and nature will set its course. No need to worry about orientation.

If your germinating the paper towel method-- remember the root is the first thing to come out from the seed (the pointy end ) and therefore should be planted root down.

Hope that helped

I didn't mention it cause I thought you knew but in case you didn't--

Don't forget for germination to use only clean water at room temp, keep the soil moist, place container where humidity remains relatively high and temperatures reach 80 degrees F. You may also find it beneficial to use a good plant starter solution with vitamin B1.

NOTICE: The above is for germination not vegative growth.

And thats the nutshell version. If you require further assistance ask away.

Goodluck

I forgot to add that when you germinate no light is required (too delicate of a stage) therefore you should place the container in a dark humid place according to my last post guidelines.

Once they sprouted it's ok to start the 24hr light cycle but make sure you don't fry them. If your using flourescents keep it 1 maybe 2inches from the top of your plant(s) at all times.

As for when you should start the 12/12 flowering cycle: What til maturity sets in. You can tell this when you start seeing alternate branching. Usually the rule of thumb is flower when they reach a height of 10,12, or 15 inches with 10 being the bare minimum. Any shorter and your buds will be lanky and weak towards harvest. If your wondering how many weeks it would take before it reaches any of those heights or becomes mature enough, I'd say anywhere from 4-6 weeks. Also note that when you induce flowering the
plant(s) may double even triple in size so adjust your setup accordingly.
