![]() ![]() ![]() | So, to interject, has the consensus changed about growing Chocolope outdoors? I remember a few months ago everyone was saying "do not grow this strain outdoors" so I've been keeping mine inside. I have two good Chocolope mothers that I'm letting get big, and I have one of the inferior phenotype. I was really considering putting the runt outside (I have an excellently impenetrable patch of woods behind my house) and maybe taking a few clones off the larger mother and throwing them out there. Here we still have about 3 good months of flowering weather left, if the rain will ever stop (just lost an oz or so to mold)Should I just give her filtered sunlight? I have a spot where she'd get full sun, but countless others that would give a few hours of direct, and a few hours of shade every day. Sorry to hijack

We don't get tremendously strong sun in the summer, 27 high in the day, but all June and July they got about 16-18 hours of sun everyday. This fall has been very warm, it's 18 today, so I've been VERY lucky. I'd imagine from what Lacy said with her plants getting too much direct sun, that you might want to take that into account. Asking other growers around town here, Chocolope seems to be one of the easier strains to grow in general. If you have the plants, give it a try outside? Truely it's just some lost time at the very worst.... but I've had good results so far and lots of really excellent advice! Good luck!

![]() ![]() ![]() | Thanks I wish it was 18 here today! Roundabout conversion (American over here still using fahrenheit) I'd say it's 30 - 32 still. I guess that means we're lucky, since we have such a long growing season, but it also means that buds tend to be wispy and airy, since it's regularly 90+ (32+) during the first month of budding. I've learned to keep mine inside until the last possible minute to get good nugs. Again, thanks. I'll post some pics on this thread if it turns out well.

Hi Lacy, I saw the first of the little hairs turning brown. I'm only about 4 weeks in now, I thought the browning would not happen for another 2 weeks or so. Someone said that it marks another milestone here.... At 4 weeks, I didn't think that I even passed the halfway point yet.... Should I start checking the tri's for cloudyness? Do I need to check the sample off the plant and dried? How's your outdoor faring? My temp is still around 16 - 18 everyday, which is AWESOME for the Netherlands! We had a fantastic summer and autumn so far.... I'm in shorts and a t-shirt most days and the girls are still sitting in open windows... The warmer weather I was told generally results in a sweeter smoke. I was told by a local grower that in a poorer weather year the smoke can be quite harsh.... Thanks again!

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hey why the bleep not!!!! LMAO!!! ![]() The name cracks me up! ![]() If I were you I would put the one irregualr phenotype in the morning sun and afternoon shade. The regular type phenos can handle more full sun but really like to be wattered well. This one can however be somewhat susceptible to powdery mildew or mold so make sure there is good ventialtion either growing indoors or out. If growing outdoors I find it very helpful to remove any grass around it no matter how low because after the rain this vegetation collects moisture. Removing the yellowing leaves should be done on this plant in particular since it doesn't seem to lose much leafage and its branches go all the way down to the bottom. I find this strain a very full one in that it has buds from top to bottom. Because I cloned my at the time i did her leaf blade count seems odd but I know it is normal for this strain. It reminds me of growing himalaya gold somewhat. My chocolopes are about the same flowering stage as yours and mine are just starting to turn brown also. This is another sign that it is progressing successfully. Mine smells just heavenly and I can't believe how much I miss this tasty treat. I loved it so much i smoked it all already and even my generous amount of Jack Herer isn't quite cutting it at this point. What can I say,....I'm totally spoiled now. ![]() As far as testing the trichs for readiness now? Its really far too early BUT i do however think it is a great idea to take off a leaf sample every now and again just to get the experience and general idea of how it looks and the progression you are watching out for. Besides which, it is tres cool to look under the scope and see all these trichs getting loaded up.Oh dro-o-o-l. L-O-V-E this strain. ![]() ![]() My other outdoor plants are doing quite nicely. I took some pics for you to see. Its so cool seeing the leaves change colours. This is my favourite season. It seems like such a natural progression to retreat back into autumn. T-shirt and shorts. I'd be putting on quite the show if I walked outside in a t shirt and shorts ona day like today. Its freezing. Ok its not that it is THAT cold its just that the weather changes so darn fast here that at times it is difficult to get used to. Luckily our furnace isn't working : but have electric heaters on. My little doggies now have their warm fleece coats to go outdoors so they are looking extra cute and sucky.![]() Now the cat stays in more often and becomes more of a house cat than a hunter. I'm so glad because I am getting tired of seeing an assortment of dead animals in my backyard. ![]() Here are some pics of my other outdoor strains. I'm so GLAD I dug up the best ones and brought them back home. There's 2 chocolopes, nyc diesel, jack herer, and orange bud and some others . . I should have started them here from the start but I got paranoid....but whatelse is new. ![]() .

![]() ![]() ![]() | I put the stunted pheno outside over a week ago. It lost a few fan leaves (not really sure why, but they just kinda wilted) and just a few of the other leaves curled up. The plant wasn't looking that great after the first couple days, so I moved it to a more shady area and transplanted it into the ground. The original growth isn't looking that great, but there's plenty of new growth that looks more adjusted to outdoors. I never tried to harden it off. It just wasn't worth it to be bringing it in and out of my house like that. It's receiving about 4 - 6 hrs of direct sunlight a day, but it's still in the high 80s here (~30C). I'm thinking this is too warm for choco. It's showing pistils at the very top now, which I'm taking as a good sign. My others this year didn't show pistils on top for almost 2 weeks. I have 5 clones off the larger chocolope, two of which rooted yesterday, and I'm sure the other 3 aren't far behind. I still haven't decided what to do with them. I don't think I'll put most of them outside, unless the little choco I have out there starts looking much better. I think I'll just keep them as extra mothers to be able to pull clones faster. It rooted fairly easily. I really didn't have to coax it much. I'm green, lacy. With envy, of course. Those are some really nice pics!

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hey why the bleep. I think this THIS strain, in particular, it is CRUCIAL that you let her get used to outdoors first. There are no lights that are as intense as the sun and this baby is sensitive so how she reponded. is to be expected, It would really be helpful if you could put up some picture for me to see the damage you are describing. A few leaves curling up is perfectly fine. If the new growth that comes up is doing well then you almost have to forget about some of those fan leaves. Eventually many will yellow and just fall off anyway. This strain does really well indoors and needs a lot more TLC if tranferring either indoors or outdoors . It CAN'T be done too suddenly or it will be too much for her. Here is another thread to look over about chocolope. This member studied her well also. http://www.gardenscure.com/420/soil-...ml#post1303624 Good luck with whatever you decided and have a great day.

You dont really have to yet, since you know there are at least a few weeks left to go. But when you do check under the scope, all you need to do is cut a small bit of LEAF off of the plant. Preferably one sugar leaf very close to the buds. You want one that has lots of trichs on it anyway, but theres really no need to take any buds off to look. Although when harvest time comes you can do that if you like. Or try and get that scope to work while holding it up to the plant itself. How goes the battle with your powdery mildew??
