I heard you talking about this in another thread blue, and I was going to try it anyway. Next week is when I get the naners, I've got 14 plants, we'll see what happens.

Cheese, does it make a difference between organic and non-organic bananas?

I know I've had brain problems with the definition of "organic" recently but I think "commercial" fruits (Freudian joke in there somewhere) are sprayed with anti-ripening chemicals.

ive got 3 beans in rock wool cubes, still only seeds with tails. Ill try this when they get old enough.

I wonder where i can buy 1 single bannana, I dont really like eating them, they make my stomach hurt. I might need more, but i rather just buy 1 at a time.

Go to the grocery store & rip one off the bunch; they sell them by the pound. I just did that very thing.

I don't dare eat the bananas that have been sitting under the plants!

Not even a candidate for Nanner bread, seems to me it would be awefully sweet..

analog sorry I missed your post at first. I just get regular old bananas; any anti-ripening agent doesn't seem to interfere.

And no way buzzzd! I don't make banana bread with rotten bananas - just overripe ones - and there is a difference.

Mary Jane

cheese--Are you saying you let it get to the rotten stage then under the plant before changing it?? And do you just have to change it once then?? I was all a believer till I saw the 3 out of 4, then started having 2nd thoughts about it. Have to get someone to do up a good 20 or so plants and bananas to really make me a believer I'd guess. Start more plants please, cheese. I rhymed and am so proud of myself with it. LOL

Happy Nanners for females

Hey Alleycat!
Seems like someone's done that for you:

Here is a thread I saved from OG. I don't know if it works but my seeds are currently in a banana-filled bag. You can't loose much to try. I'll post my female male ratio once I sex my plants.

O.K Ive read alot of posts with regards to male plants from people obviously not intent on breeding & worried about having them.

The best way to avoid males in the first place is obviously to feminise your seeds before you start which you can do by using a commercial feminiser like sensa soak which contains 'Ethylene' or birth control pills that contain oestrogen etc.

But here is a cheap, very effective method I use which ime sure some will be familiar with but alot of you wont.

O.K Before you germinate your seeds, place your seeds in a sealed plastic bag containing banana peels for 14 days. Wrap the banana skins in tissue to absorb any moisture they give off. Keep the bag in a warm place & air the seeds regularly, replacing the skins as they ripen. Ethylene, a naturally occuring gas given off by the ripening bananas causes feminisation.

I have been using this method for two years now & has produced a 100% success rate on apx:30 unfeminised seeds from three different strains.
Anyway, the seasons well under way now but I hope this might be of some use to anyone that wasnt aware next year.

All the Best R.D

That's where I got the idea. But instead of wrapping & warming & changing peels I wanted something simpler, so I just lay a banana down beside the plant. And I'm not messing with the seeds, just the plants.

Alley I keep the bananas under the plants for weeks 3 & 4. Sometimes one banana will last the entire two weeks (they did last time) but I replace it before I get bugs. I did let the second banana ripen some before taking away the first one.

And I can't try the experiment again for awhile, I need some males.
