I think for this theory to actually be tested one should add ethylene gas to the grow chamber like co2 addition. Otherwise I think its just speculation that it works. My first grow ever in a drip hydro system I had 6/6 females from bag seeds and no bananas. If I had a banana in there I would probably think it worked, while it was only coincidence.

Since I have had my peepee slapped in this thread before for mentioning a stable ethylene foliar spray to test this theory I will shut up now.

It's a scientific fact that all fruits emit ethylene gas as they decompose.
And by having bananas in the GR you're doing exactly that.
Adding ethylene gas in the room <like Co2>
Just because is not coming from a bottle doesn't mean the plants don't absorb it.

All I was saying is that the amount of fruit it takes to bring the ethylene gas up in the room is a waste of money and FOOD for that matter. Its like saying use yeast and sugar for CO2 production. Its both a waste of time and material.

Actually it has been tested and proven that ethylene gas does promote a plant to produce certain characteristics including female sexing. Bayer crop science has a product made of stable ethylene that is sprayed on the crop.

Now as I said before I was slapped around for suggesting use of either a ethylene gas or a ethylene stable foliar spray to test on MJ. So don't rag on me, you sound like a religous fanatic that wont look into a scientific point of view when it comes to the Banana Theory.

P.S. I haven't read the whole thread cause most of it is "I put a banana in my grow room... I got a female"ect.

Isn't that the whole point of this thread, thus saying that it works??? Damn a couple bananas cost what under a buck, I'll waste a dollar to get females anyday. You must be on one hell of a tight budget there. You could throw them in your compost afterwards and get more use out of them after getting females plants from them too.

Right on that was what I was trying to get at. Has anyone tested Ethrel or Straight ethylene gas on MJ. You say they have, and it works. Thats great. Guess I will have to see about getting either ethrel or ethylene gas in the future when growing from seed.

For treating seeds and small seedlings you will probably get better results using ethylene gas rather than ethrel.

That's exactly right. If you read the paper referenced, ethylene does in fact promote feminization in male adult cannabis plants. It actually reverses the sex of the plants... unfortunately, it will not make you male plants or seeds female, it will merely make your male plants produce female flowers.... until you remove the ethylene, and then the female flowers stop and change into weird male flowers, and then male flowers.

I saw a post on reversing a male, and then ceasing the ethylene exposure on highbred. The guy had some pretty cool pics, too!

I had bananas around my plants for days 10-40 of veg. Out of 3 Hashberry and 3 Papaya plants, 3/6 are female (2 HB, 1 Pap).

Last grow I was 3/3 females with Afghani #1.
