if its one thing i have learned with this growing stuff is that more is almost always bad. the same with bananas/ethylene. I had five bananas in my room during my last grow from day 14 of veg. to the day i switched to 12/12. It just about stunted growth completely but in the name of research i didnt take em out untill flowering began.

I ended up getting 16 out of 17 female. outstanding results but i pretty much didnt have a harvest from 16 plants. none were taller than 1.5 feet and most lost a lot of their fan leaves.

So be careful.
IMHO having A (as in ONE) banana in your room helps to get more females... but dont overdo it.

are you sure it was becasue of the banana's that it stunted your growth? what was your set-up? I mean...you can't just come in here and say you did end up getting a great ratio of fems but they didn't grow because of the banana's and not try to explain that you did everything else exactly how it needed to be. how are you so sure it was the banana's?

Well i've just had two nice looking soil plants both go male on me so now i'm down to my two hydro's left, so i'm really hoping to get a female, especially from the large plant which is Durban Poison from cann....seeds.com. I've added two bananas and will have my fingers crossed. Should i add more or is two ok??

DP is about 20days old
The small plant is from the one seed i popped out of a pound of some dank Juicy Fruit (so she says) and is about the same age, but was stunted due to high temps very early.

After smoking some Inspiration..

I was thinking ,

Why not put a Bunch (no pun intended)of Banana Peels in a Gallon Jug,Attach a Heavy Duty Balloon to the Opening &Secure.
As the Ethylene gases rise they fill the balloon ~keep adding Peels until balloon is Full,
Remove balloon ~attach a valve & some tubing ~ Dispense Gases when & where needed!

haha, I don't think it'll have enough expansion strength to blow up the balloon mate. I think it'd just condense itself in the jug itself. it's not nitric acid and zinc.

I'm going to go smoke some inspiration myself.

I'm hesitant to say this, but in my very humble opinion, I think it is unwise to tamper with the natural sex of MJ. Especially if you pay top dollar for quality genetics. I'm willing to bet its a bad idea to try to improve on a breeders work. Especially the top breeders.

If you pay some serious bucks, and your looking for a permanent mother, just let nature ride and take your chances. Exposing your seedlings to this type of gas may induce hermy traits. Long story short, get a hermy in a nice grow, its very counter productive. I've never got less then 50/50 on male to female ratio's with any seeds.

I'm just thinking out loud, I may be wrong. Just intuition.
