good point. and indeed, I do. lol dude, if you think it will help and no one has an answer for you, try it and see what happens. put 3 sets of 5 or 10 seeds in bags with gas and 3 sets of 5 or 10 without gas, then note the results. then repeat it. let us know your results if you would. ![]()

![]() I do think that any experiment would have to control the moisture. It seems like you would need to use ethylene gas to keep the humidity down. Deriving it from fruit in the same container will probably ruin the seeds due to moisture. However it would also depend on the necessary time of exposure which none of us knows.... yet. Of course the whole idea makes a big assumption that ethylene gas works for this use. JiC

1. Do seeds need oxygen? A. No. According to various cannabis sites and some seed breeders O2 and moisture are bad for long term storage. 2. How about vacuum sealing the banana and seeds together? A. No. The moisture from the banana would most likely ruin the seeds (My opinion after researching). Ethylene gas would have to be used directly. Posted by Medical Marijuana on another website: Using bananas to feminise your seeds. From a cannabis growers point of view, an easy way to feminise your seeds before you germinate is to use a commercial feminiser like sensa soak which contains 'Ethylene'. But, here is a cheap, very effective method a gardner like me would use, which I am sure some members will be familiar with. An organic feminising method using ripening bananas. Before you germinate your seeds, place your seeds in a sealed plastic bag containing banana peels for 14 days. Wrap the banana skins in tissue to absorb any moisture they give off. Keep the bag in a warm place & air the seeds regularly, replacing the skins as they ripen. Ethylene, a naturally occuring gas given off by the ripening bananas causes feminisation. Peel 2 bananas and seperate the strips. i.e you should have about 4 seperated skins from each banana. Wrap each skin in 'one' layer of tissue & lay them inside a carrier bag, then lay one piece of tissue over all the skins & place the seeds on top & seal the bag & leave it in a warm place (room temp is fine). You then need to open the bag once daily for about 20 minutes to release excess moisture, much the same as when your curing your buds. You then need to change the skins for fresh ones every three days as they will turn brown & rotten after that. You leave the seeds for about two weeks so youll need to change the skins 5 or 6 times. I myself have never bothered with germinating my seeds in tissue or leaving them in water etc. I just plant them straight in to pots of moist compost. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | JelliedInfant no, seeds do not need oxygen, just moisture, but by sealing the bananas in a bag, most likely will grow fungus, and like Mrs. Blue mention earlier, ethylene gas gets absorbed by the stomata of the plants leaves, seeds have non of that. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Natural question, yes, unanswered question? No, you would have had to carefully decypher the previous replys directing you, personally, in the right direction to have gotten your answer. nerd brained stoners including myself have very arcane phraseoligy; sifting through it all may take time but you're very near to finding your answer. Allow me to calm your troubled ethelyene soul. Fist of all, sealing seed in a bag with a banana, 1. novel idea, interesting innovative contribution to the site, unfortunatley the cannabis experts here have explained to you as nicley and simply as possible that it is not a good idea. In fact, this whole thread was started to debunk the seed/ethelyene exposure method in light of new studies that suggest ethelene exposure is most effective durring the 3rd and 4th week of vegetation. That meens once your sprout hits light, start counting. then add ripening bananas casually to the grow enviroment, right underniete the plant. It's suggested that only a small amout of the gas is needed to trigger feminization. So you surley have some reading to do in the germination and growth sections before you even get to ethelyene feminization. Good luck! Keep sproutin!

The thread wasn't started to debunk anything. It was started to promulgate a theory.
