i've been cutting slices of the banana (~1/4 inch think skin and all) and placing them around the base of the plants, the first round (took about three days) i took out the decomposing slices and the second round i covered them up with some soil when they started to ripen. today (2nd day of week 4) i plan on cutting some more and day three remove those when they dry out. the cut banana's decompose very quickly and i'm thinking that the potassium in the banana's will leach out to boost potassium levels in the soil? out of 7 az bagweed how many female? time will tell. i'm doing a third round of bananas slices today. i guess i could start a "splinter thread" , but who needs controversy. just trying it i way.peace, n_zyme

We dont use Superphos on our farm. We use slurry ( cow poo from 70 girls , and 2000 gallons of water ) . I kick the ol Massey Ferguson into life, and spread it all over the North West 40 .We watch Gerald next door paying $$$ to have sevaral tonnes of Superphos spread, but we shake our heads. Sure it sorta works. Lookit that.....nice n green aint it ??? But our pasture, and our girls know better ! ( so does our milk fat yeild ! ) Quick release ? Slow realease ? Both are good I'd say. Both work. And I dont think it is JUST potassium . I see sulphur , other trace elements , and Food for Microbes. I reckon that feeding your LIVE SOIL is damn near as important is " feeding " your plants. One , is in fact , the other ! If our Rotifers karked it, our pasture would kark it . Its that simple. Superphos can burn. Cow Poo cannot ![]() N_zyme......nice poetry from Dylan. Many folks would prolly credit Hendrix. I guess its the different between Knowing , and Understanding huh ?

4-5th wk. a whole peeled banana would start to rot pretty quick. i wouldn't suggest it.

![]() ![]() | I'm not sure about the female inducing part, but it might have a connection. I read in the book that I'm reading, that ethylyne promotes stem thickening, especially in seedlings. So it's only efficiant to put a banana around your plants when it's in the vegatative cycle or a seedling. I got this idea, that a banana should be put right under where the seedlings are germinating. I'm almost sure it would improve germination rate, and also make the future plant bigger and tastier. | ||
