Buckeye_01 you might be a little anxious and need another round of bananas.

The sex determination is somewhere in weeks 3 & 4, so I "plant" my bananas at 21 days and leave them there until at least day 35.

Good luck!

Hiya bc

So, my girls (I hope!) will be approaching ~21 days this weekend ... right about when they'll be upgraded to 1 gallon pots. As of now, there are 30 seedlings growing, with a couple defectives ... which may or may not end up in a 1 gallon pot. Once the transplant occurs, they'll reside under the 400 mh ... covering an area of about 3 x 5'. Any idea about how many bananas would be right for this setup? Keep in mind I grow in an open 11 x 12' basement area with very little ventilation exhaust at this stage in their life. And how often do you change out the fruit? I suppose it depends on how ripe they are when they go in, right? Can they go in when they're still green?

I've had bananas for almost two weeks now, we're at about 4.5 weeks overall. Flowering started two days ago, no signs yet, but soon.

I put in green bananas at 21 days & let the banana get just short of bugs before I toss it and use another if I have to toss it before day 35 or so.

Gee JV, I've never really thought about per foot banana requirements. I can say that 2 bananas worked for the 4 plants I had on a 3'x3' e&f table. And since I've just used 1 banana per plant. I'll honestly say I don't know.

I just had some Dynamite shipped from the Doc today and I will be changing religions once they arrive. Is there a test that one must pass in order to join or is it an open door policy?

I'm sorry if this has been addressed but has anybody ever heard if plantains produce as much or more? Also, do you think the baby bananas (About 1/4 the size) would be bad? I am thinking it would be easier to use more of those if you have a smaller pot.

It hasn't been addressed as far as I know. So I went a googling. I found this page on plantains but I can't find the equivalent for bananas.

Quote:
Ripening bananas give of a gas called ethylene, which develops the color as well ripening. Most fruits give off this gas as they're ripening; however bananas give of an exceptionally large amount.

I'm still looking.

This

Quote:
Ethylene stimulates ripening of plantains. Thus, plantains that are marketed mature-green should be protected from exposure to ethylene. Plantains that are marketed ripe should be ripened with bananas (exposure to 100-150 ppm ethylene for 24-48 hours at 15-20˚C = 59-68˚F and 90-95% relative humidity).

is making me think that bananas produce more ethylene.
