![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Ok I've been using rockwool for growing for years now, and always use the conditioning solution to presoak my rockwool. I was at the grow store the other day and the guy said for like 2 years now you haven't needed to be doing that. He said the rockwool in ph adjusted already. Anybody know anything they can let me in on if this is correct. Do you just have to mix up nutes, ph adjusted of course, and wet the rockwool???? It's not the main grow store I go too, and am gonna ask them when I go there next time, but was convienient to me. The guy didn't have the solution, so don't know if that's why he said that. Also the guy tried to prove it to me my sticking a soil ph meter into a dry rockwool cube, so not very convincing to me. Dude, I'm the stoned one and know that don't work for me in the past. Happy Information Please.... Alleycat

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I do not think rockwool is pH adjusted. Matter of fact someone on this site recently was having problems because they did not pre-treat the rockwool. I've been using the conditioner, but have heard that soaking it in water overnight in water adjusted to 5.3 works.

Cheese--Yeah I really don't think he is right, but before informing him politely, wanted some opinions. I set the guy up with his inventory from my friend, so might have to have some growing talks with him now. I sure ain't stopping what I've been doing. Happy Growing Alleycat

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I always soak my rockwool for 24 hrs prior to use in ph adjusted water. The grodan package I have just says to wet them in 5.5 water, but without the overnight soak, I've had poor results w/rooting. I never went so far as to buy conditioner. The 24hrs is a pain though, when you want clones in a hurry- prefer the rapid rooters, but gotta use up this brick of RW. ![]() Your banana bread is kick-ass btw!

Ok, so since this time, I have no longer been conditioning my rockwool, I'll still usually pre-soak them, but no longer using the conditioner, and haven't had any problems. Also spoke with another store owner that said the same thing that you no longer have to condition it. Anybody else know any more about this?? Happy Growing Alleycat

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I've never heard of anyone having to Condition the RW, I think a good old fashioned soak in water seems to do the job sufficiently for most peeps. Edited....... PI posted the same info in his linky ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I dont aim to start a huge unnecessary debate.. but just curious, what's the advantage to starting in rockwool? I haven't used it for quite some time now, my end product is just plant and hydroton. The soak and pH problem potential make it seem inconvenient?

Yeah you used to have to condition rockwool and ph adjust it. And it turns out some places do still sell it. Just a savings for me not having to do it. OSGS--I like it, cause that's the only way I've ever cloned. So it comes pretty easy now. I also grow both hydro and soil throughout the year, and with rockwool cubes, can just as easily plant them into soil, but if cloned in soil, would be messy to plant into hydro. It's just preference for me, and never tried cloning mj in soil, do all kinds of houseplant cloning in soil, so figure I could do it, but stll my way I have the option either way hydro or soil. As you can see by this picture, those were cloned into 1 1/2 inch cubes. Happy Growing Alleycat
