Icing down 48hrs before chop ?

I had someone recommend ( vaguely) that you should turn lights out for the last two days before chop and add PH balanced ice cubes/cold water to enhance resin/aroma etc. First I have heard of such a trick. Any experience around the garden here on this? If so, can you give me more insight like, do you keep this up all day draining and adding ice and chilled water etc etc. Thanks much BH

ice cubes? it sounds like an old stoner tale to me.... some people dont water their plants for a few days, in order to aide in the drying process...

as for leaving the lights off, why would you want to stop giving the plant energy for the last two days? they need that light energy to "finish up"....

Im with bagboy on this one too.. Ice cubes or water on your buds before cutting especially with the lights off will present a higher chance of mold.
Resin and aroma are usually signs of genetics and a

Ive read from breeder packs that White phenos like(white widow)do like a dark period at the end of flower to finish. The ice cubes I do not know anything about.

I have also read about giving the plants a dark cycle before harvest. I read somewhere about giving them 24hrs of dark the day before chop makes the buds "a little more resinous." Seems to me that it is one of those things...you know, "if you believe it works then, it probably does"

I know you are suppose to flush your plants with PH balanced water to get out all the extra fertilizers and salt build-up out before drying/curing... but I'm not sure why the temperature of the water would change anything?

Dark period can last for up to 10 days.P.S. warmer water for the flush releases more salts then colder water.

soil temps for finishing

I think the op's question was interesting: Is there a benefit to reducing the soil temperature for finishing ?
I do not know.

It seems understood that there is an upper limit (though generally described as the nute tank temp ?), and a lower limit which precludes growth (but does not kill/injure - cold temp stress ??). I seem to recall 52°F ?

Could there be a benefit to cooling the roots with max light ?
What does the plant make of such ?

This is not so difficult to control if one has a chiller, set the nute tank for that temp to achieve the desired soil/root mass temp.
Yes, one has to instrument a bit, no biggie.

Well if you think about it, in nature when the cycle does reach its end the soil temperature does drop slightly. Maybe it induces a more rapid finish?
