I had someone recommend ( vaguely) that you should turn lights out for the last two days before chop and add PH balanced ice cubes/cold water to enhance resin/aroma etc. First I have heard of such a trick. Any experience around the garden here on this? If so, can you give me more insight like, do you keep this up all day draining and adding ice and chilled water etc etc. Thanks much BH

as for leaving the lights off, why would you want to stop giving the plant energy for the last two days? they need that light energy to "finish up".... ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I have also read about giving the plants a dark cycle before harvest. I read somewhere about giving them 24hrs of dark the day before chop makes the buds "a little more resinous." Seems to me that it is one of those things...you know, "if you believe it works then, it probably does"

I know you are suppose to flush your plants with PH balanced water to get out all the extra fertilizers and salt build-up out before drying/curing... but I'm not sure why the temperature of the water would change anything?

I think the op's question was interesting: Is there a benefit to reducing the soil temperature for finishing ? I do not know. It seems understood that there is an upper limit (though generally described as the nute tank temp ?), and a lower limit which precludes growth (but does not kill/injure - cold temp stress ??). I seem to recall 52°F ? Could there be a benefit to cooling the roots with max light ? What does the plant make of such ? This is not so difficult to control if one has a chiller, set the nute tank for that temp to achieve the desired soil/root mass temp. Yes, one has to instrument a bit, no biggie.
