If you cut 1 inch pvc pipes to length, then drilled many holes in these pipes, stuck them in the soil, 4 pipes as a perimeter around the plant. It would distribute much more air? I would think it would help with drainage too but I'm more concerned about air.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | or try watering with oxyginated water, use an airstone to keep your water ariated so its nice and full of oxygen when you water, should work good, itll keep more oxygen in the soil when its wet, normally thats when it has the least, as the soil dries, what used to be water gets replaced by oxygen, so this will give your plants roots a pretty steady supply. Not as good as hydro, but alot beter than nothing. What your talking about probably wont do anything, like i said if your soil is wet, you could put 10 of those pipes around it, it wont absorb any oxygen till the soil starts to dry out.

Supposedly organic soil grown flowers taste best. I have read Soma's book, he sets his dirt ontop of rockwool, so there is a layer of air underneat his entire bed. I tried to think of something similar but something in closer contact with the roots. I seriously think it would help more, although 1inch PVC pipes may not be the best, I would go for something larger. But Im not sure how close to the plant I can set it. I was thinking of using it as a bamboo type of thing, to hold up the plant, but still have the holes in the pipe. I want to build a 4 way box perimeter in close proximity to the plant with the pipes. Combined with Soma's trick, I think air distribution would be prime. I am going to try it shouldn't hurt.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | go ahead man, knock youself out. But unless you plan on pumpung air thru those pipes its not gona do you that much good. Like I said when the soil is saturaded, it won't hold that much air, it definatly wont take air in by itself untill it starts to dry. But Good Luck anyway,

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The air present in soil is mostly related to its composition, specifically of the ratio between pores of differents sizes. The best way to increase air present in soil is by mixing horticultural grade perlite (the larger particle diameter one) with it. The shape of the container affect it too at some degree (tall and narrow pots get slighty higher air to water absortion ratio than short and wide ones). knna

Yeah, I totally Agree with that. Peralite, and oxygenated water would work way better than sticking pvc pipes all around this inside of you pot. Plus it's much more attractive. I can see where your coming from with your idea, but the reality is it really wont do that much.

Peralite would be a good substitute for rockwool, probably even better since it doesn't hold water like rockwool does. I put about an inch or 2 in the bottom of all my pot before planting along with it in the soil too.
