Post 3 days darkness makes your crops flower sooner

I once had a grow that had 3-4 days darkness when I transitioned from 24/0 to 12/12. This was sort of by accident however. I had fast flower with friends commenting on what a great strain it was.

This time, by reason of family visitation, I again went 3-4 days dark period which I timed to be during my family's stay. My plants had to stay under my bathroom sink. They were at the time 5 weeks veg and began showing signs maturation on peripheral growth. This is my current grow and I've got some fast flowering again. It was less than a week after they had the extended dark period when 3 out of 11 showed sex and 2 of those 3 had aggressively started pistol formation

So..... anyone else do a long dark period when they go from 24/0 to 12/12?
If so, why wouldn't this be common practice? Beneficial or detrimental?

I take my comments off the air

Look back through the ages, it used to be suggested to give your plants 24hrs darkness at the start of flower to "jump start" them. Some suggested more some suggested none... Ease of operation has led to the standards of today of just flip and go.

I agree. So long as the plants are mature, throwing the switch should be sufficient. I did the 48 hr dark period my first grow, and threw the switch the second. I noticed no difference save maybe a few days. This grow I cycled my lights down 1 1/2 hour a day over a period of 8 days and by 15/9 the calyxs had began to swell, 13.5/10.5 the pistils fattened up, and now a week in most of the auxilliary limbs are in full bloom as well. I should note that this was a mother in full maturity, but otherwise I feel that from what Ive seen this may be hand over fist better than any other method Ive tried. Anybody else?
