one of my friends told me that i could use marbles to grow hydro could this be done?

why not if u can use clay balls, i know clay balls are porous marbles arnt but if your flows are ok then it should work.

would it be a problem that they do not hold water? .. the reason the clay marbles work is cause they hold water for the roots ..

If you were using an aeroponic system you could use glass marbles as the growing media. Because the roots don't get the nutrients or water from the growing media, it gets them from the bottom of the tank which holds the fertilizer water.

hey,
because they dont hold liquid like clay balls, couldent you put it on a faster cycle? instead of 1min on 8min off, you could do 1min on 4min off? i only used them figues for example!

Marbles or the flat glass disks would also work with a constant drip setup.
