'M'=13 seeds germed (sativa)
'A'= 38
'3'= 35

I divided the seeds between the cups. 3 cups for the sativa (I have hopes here)
I did 4 cups each for 'a' and '3'. (not holding much hope here as they are close to 50%)
I also put all of the control into one cup.

I used hempy mixture 3/1 perl/verm and then sprinkled a thin layer of verm on top. The cups were well wetted and covered with press 'n' seal.
Once I see some growth I will drill a hole and go hempy on these.

Just a quick update.

Checked the cups last night and gave them all a misting and recovered them.
Checked just a couple of hours ago and there is action in about 1/2 of the cups. A couple of root tips poking up (recovered w/ medium) and some mounding where it appears that 'breakthrough' is soon to be seen.

Well, at least we will have something to look at soon.

Here are some pics.

Pic 1 is the control-all is well

Pics 2-4 are of indica cups

Pic 5 is the sativa batch

Notes: Control is ahead of the others.
There is some screwy root growth going on in some of the pics as well as stunted looking sprouts. (hard to see in the pics)

After the pics I put some more vermiculite over any exposed roots.

I am also going to drill some hempy holes in the cups.

Stay tuned.

First 2 pics are the Sativa, the rest are the Indica.
The control group (no pic) is moving right along.
A couple of the treated seeds sprouts are catching up to the control.
I bet the only seeds to 'maybe' show some effect from the treatment will be the later sprouting ones, but I could be very wrong about that.

note: I have some new sprouts from the seeds that didn't make it into medium. I may plant some of those. They are no longer in solution, just water.

There are two ways to treat plants with mutagens, like colchine. One is to soak the seeds, which is the safest and has less tendency to revert from 4n to 2n.

The second way is to spay the plant during growth [veg]. I don'tt know how many treatments, or what not. I do know that this bud should not be smoked. The trick is to cross a 4n female with a 4n male and hope most the offspring keep the doubled chromosomes.

The problem is that the plant always wants to revert. And, it is tough to tell if it is truely 4n, 3n, or the normal 2n.

Good luck on this though, its worth lookin into, I personally think pot is just like tobacco. The tobacco industry induced polyploidy in nicotina tobbacum so many times. They were doing this to increase the amount of nicotine a plant produces.

A specie of fern has the highest number of chromosomes per cell, 1000n.

A true breeding 4n strain of cannabis will probably yeild better results...but we will see. Keep it up.

People take .6mg daily.
It is toxic stuff but the amt the seed absorbes is miniscule. Spread it out over the entire harvested plant and you have less.
The drug can't replicate itself.

I will be careful when handeling the pills and the solution but wont give a second thought to smoking the plant.

Sorry, didn't mean to rant.

Interesting results.

The control group (cup in the back of the pics) has a few late sprouters pushing up through the soil, as do most of the treated sets.

The biggest difference I notice is there are 'underdeveloped' sprouts in the treated sets.
Roots will appear without any leaf development, funky curling roots...
The treated sprouts that took off and look 'normal' seem to be just that, normal. None of them seem to be kicking arse compared to the control group.

If you blow up the last two pics you will see an example of what I am refering to.
Hanging on the stick is a root without any leaf development, right next to it growing out of the soil is what appears to be a sprout that may not have any leaves??

There are lots of late-commers beginning to break soil as well.

I will keep you updated.

BTW: As I will most not likely be needing any bud when this finishes up I will not be smoking the first Gen.

a question about the persistance of colchine . .
my understanding is that the colchine is in the plant matter, so using say a cold water or cold solvent extraction - would the resultant hash oil contain colchine ?

I am not sure. I also hate to suggest that it is safe.
My friend, who is the source of my pills, has gout. He takes a pill at a time. I use 10 pills per oz of water for soaking the seeds.

I find it hard to believe that amt that the tiny seed absorbes, spread over an entire plant adds up to diddlysquat (to use a scientific term).
There just isn't enough, of the actual drug, spread around to make it a problem.

The real safety question comes when we think outside of the bolded section above.
What does the drug do the the plant itself? Are the results of that treatment safe to smoke?
I don't know, so I will err on the side of caution and not smoke plants from treated seeds. Clones, on the other hand I see as fair game, for my own personal use.

In answer to you question I would have to say I don't know. I would treat cold water and cold solvent extraction in the same way I suggest treating 1st gen/clones as stated above.

Thanks for stopping by.
