ScrOG is the "Screen Of Green" method. The purpose of ScrOG is to maximize your usage of the available space and lighting by training the new growth of a plant into a screen or mesh. ScrOG can be done in soil or soil-less/hydro. Below is a picture of a ScrOG cabinet grow. The screen is 20" x 30" and is placed 16" above the resevoir. As a general rule, you should leave at least three times the space above the screen as there is below. I only left 36" above the screen and one of the plants grew into the glass. As you learn more about the strain you're growing, you can adjust the level of the screen or light accordingly. Notice how the plants have filled up all of the available space; and that the light does not penetrate all the way through the canopy of plant material. This picture is almost an x-ray of light usage.

My CoG Garden - Room within a room The reason "home-grown" is no longer synonymous with "schwag" is because of the control indoor growers have over the plant environment. Over the last few decades, we have learned what the near-ideal environment is for MJ cultivation. To paraphrase a genious, "We stand on the shoulders of giants". | ||

It is best to use clones for a ScroG grow...it promotes a more even canopy of growth. But, starting a ScroG crop from seed is possible.

...is uneven growth. Seeds from the same mother and father plants, will still have different growth characteristics and genetic traits amongst themselves. Here is a perfect example: this little fellow was far behind his counter-parts; and thus, was not receiving his fair share of the light. The other problem is males. Once the screen is full, and the plants trained into the screen, it will be rather difficult to remove any male plants

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | As the plants grow, you want to start training them into the screen. Most ScrOGers use a 2" chicken wire for their screens. It's easily obtainable(and cheap) at any hardware store. The ultimate goal of a ScrOG grow is to get one branch through each hole in the screen. Here are a couple pics of a screen starting to fill up...it is still too early to start flowering in these pictures.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | When training, it is best to train the new growth only. As it is quite flexible still and can repair itself quickly(in comparison to older growth). "Topping" or "FIMing" a plant is recommended for ScrOG grows...both promote branching and the more branches the better. I top my plants twice; first at the second node, then again at the fifth node. Screen still filling up...

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | If a branch gets too long and above the others, you simply(but gently) pull it into an adjacent hole to "stretch out" the height. Some growers will "weave" the branches through the screen. Another full screen

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | As the screen begins to fill up, you should be removing the lower growth from beneath the screen. The pupose of this is to get the plant to direct its energy towards the growth above the screen. Due to lack of good light, any growth below the screen tends to suffer anyways and usually doesn't amount to much. "It is energy better used above the screen". Do the removal slowly over the course of about a week or two. If you do it all at once, you will shock your plants and this will stunt their growth. Occasionally, a stubborn branch or two may try to get the better of you. But some twist-ties will fix that quick. For those truely stubborn branches, use some string and slowly(about a quarter inch per day), "reel" her in. See pic below to see all of the above. After flowering begins, you should not need to do any additional training. But, you may need to continue to remove new growth as it appears under the screen.
