Scrog is great. Believe me it can teach you a lot about your ladies.

A few points to aleviate some of the headaches I endured before you get them...

Don't scrog seedlings. Some plants are easier to train to the screen. If you put the screen on the plants before you've seen how the plants grow it is harder to know how to train them to the screen. It is also a bit dificult to remove a male or hermie from the tangle of branches you'll end up with.

When you have a good scrog queen prepare as many clones as you can possibly fit into the area you have. Working with this tangle of life will teach you more than I could if I sat next to you at your grow.

Clones should be well rooted when they are transplanted into the grow room. Allow for 10" of growth on the first cycle. This can be adjusted later as you get to know your lady and how she likes things.

Some prefer 24/0 and some prefer 18/6 for vegitative growth. I have seen favourable sides to both. Allow the clones to grow a couple of inches through the screen. Then make the switch to 12/12. Again, some prefer a gradual switch, some just change over, others will shock her with 36 hrs of dark.

Training to the screen can be by bending the stem back under the wire as it grows, weaving it up and down through the screen or by allowing the tip the grow through the screen then tying it to it from above. I prefer the last as it makes harvest a snap. Just cut all of the stems as they go throught he screen then hang the whole thing. If you plan the harvest well the manicuring can be done before the actual harvest.

Maintain you light at maximum penetration. Hang it as low as possible without taking light from the edges or burning the plants. Always allow for several inches of growth during the stretch. It's better to be safe than crispy.

Keep any damages or dead plant material cleaned out of the "jungle". The density of the plants will make moisture levels a problem without a lot of air movement. A fan below the screen is as important as one on the budz. You will eventually end up with a carpet of budz supported by the screen above a forest of naked stems.

Trimming any fans above the screen that block an appreciable amount of light from other budz will help keep an even growth across the screen. Don't worry about removing leaves. As long as you don't get crazy and take all of them at once she'll be just fine.

I know there are more questions. I'm open.

I'm planning to set up one of the twins as a scrog and one as a straight grow to compare results. The MP clone I have in the fridge will go under the scrog. I'll probably use clones of the most lanky in the scrog and keep the shorter ones in the bush grow.

Exclamation Scroggin...

Hey BD,
I am going to attempt my first grow using the SCROG method. I have been reading my butt off trying to filter in as much information as possible. I have a fridge setup. It is 1x2x4. I have a 150W HPS that I just installed (I used 80W of flourescent lighting to germinate and just transplanted into 16OZ cups. I had to start out with seeds (first grow). I plan on waiting until they are 8" tall then send them to 12/12. As soon as I can sex them, the females will have a screen overhead. I plan on using 3 plants for this. Is it too late to bend after sexing...or will plants overcrowd grow space before finished flowering. ???? I could go ahead and do SOG until I get some clones but, These are some seeds that I had of some good stuff. What do you think? Thanks.

Thought this might better be at the top for a while again.

Hello rafeefar,

Thanx for the interest.

Scrogging for seed is possible, but it is harder than from clones. Your plan sounds like it should work. Has it?

Let us know what happened. Sorry I was out for so long.

Smiles,
BD

I find it best to sex the plants @ about 6in.(takes about a week or so @ 12/12-then back to 18/6 or 24 as soon as you read it's sex) I hope that resolves your height problem.

Post This is just a pic of a tight setup....
permalink

This is a pic, I found at OG.com, of Newganjaboy's very tight little SCRoG setup. He's only got two plants (silver pearl) going with reportedly thirty colas above the screen. It is a DWC using PVC to make a frame for the screen. Actually, he has 3 mothers (different strains) and SCRoGs from clones. Being that it is only 2 plants, all he has to do when changing solution is lift the lid, with plants, frame and screen attached, and transfer into another tub whilst he changes out his solution. Very tight indeed. Thought it might be good to give people an idea of how a SCRoG ought to look. As BD pointed out, he has ended up with a carpet of buds above and bare branches below the screen. Hope this gives others good ideas. I am certainly going to do this next grow.

Peace,
HH
