Purple Mandala #1
permalink

Seeing as how there are many Mandala fans on this board, I can't resist sharing this pic of one of my Mandala #1 plants now in flower. It is currently on the 25th day of flower (as are the pics). I was very surprised a week ago when I saw a purple coloring beginning to show as I only planted 2 of the feminized seeds. I didn't think there was a very good chance of ending up with one of the purple phenos. I am happy to be wrong in this instance though.

What I find odd is that the trichomes actually appear purple. You can see this most clearly in the picture with the camera's flash turned off. My understanding was only the calyxes would be purple. Not that I'm complaining mind you! I can't wait to see what this plant looks like when it's done flowering. I'm so excited!

Thankfully, yes, I have a clone growing out in my veg room to use as a mother. I hope it smokes as good as it looks, or I might have to cry...

Update - 60 days
permalink

Hello everyone! Here are two updated pictures of the purple Mandala #1 at day 60 of flower. I was beginning to trim and decided to snap a couple photos before my fingers got too sticky. The second picture shows a close up of the pinkish-purple calyxes (some are darker than this).

This plant could go longer, but I'm taking it down today. Unfortunately, my body doesn't like this pheno. Each sample I have tried of it has left me feeling very ill, like I have the flu or something. That's not exactly what I'm looking for, even if the plant is colorful and oh so pretty.

Just for the record though, I have another Mandala #1 pheno already chopped that is nothing like the purple pheno. It's currently a favorite of mine for a relaxing mellow and pain-free effect. It does wonders for pain! I water cured it for 4 days, hung it to dry, and jarred it up to cure more.

Catnip... daaamn nice looking plant.. No I want a purp strain! Thanks for posting those!
Im not sure about the illness feeling though.. I did once feel like that after sampling some of my bud before she was even close to flush.. I later learned that it was due to improper flushing.. No flushing in my instance
Apparently some nutrients can cause an illness-like state.. Im not sure if the 4 days water curing was enough to fully flush the nutes out?

Thanks HellRaiZeR. The plant was flushed for 2 weeks before I took the last sample (started day 44). Then I let it air dry a day and put it in my Da Buddha vaporizer. Even in the vaporizer I do get a small headache if a plant is still fresh, but with all other plants that's as far it goes. I should note that this pheno doesn't make my husband sick. However, it doesn't stand out as something special for him either.

I experimented a tad with my last plant. Water curing 4 days with frequent water changes is just long enough to smooth out the smoke nicely without removing all of the scent or taste (though it is reduced). This gives me a nice middle road. I can then hang to dry without worrying about intense odor or having to build another contraption to control it. While I dream of the day where all of my harvests will be full scent/flavor, for now I have to be a little more stealthy because I need this for medical reasons. Better safe than really sorry.
