Exclamation Whorled Phyllotaxy - 3 leaves at each node!
permalink

I made a decision not to post on here anymore with all of the DEA agents snooping around, but I'm breaking the silence to bring you this one. I have a clone / cutting that has whorled phyllotaxy.

Leaf phyllotaxy describes how leaves are arranged on a branch. [Props to Brindie for give me the definition on that one!] MJ usually has opposite phyllotaxy. (Sets of two leaves, with each set perpendicular to the last one.) This cutting has three leaves per node, or 'whorled phyllotaxy'.

I did a google search and found this page, which explains leaf phyllotaxy without being too long-winded: http://www.ct-botanical-society.org/...hyllotaxy.html

This is especially unusual as this clone was a cutting from an otherwise normal female white widow plant. All of the other branches on the plant are normal. I have no idea why this branch of the plant was different.

I'd also like to note that this cutting developed more roots, much quicker than all of the other cuttings I took. Hopefully when she grows to flower she will have some nice crazy triple-buds.

Whorled Phyllotaxy - Dark Shot
permalink

Here's another shot of the clone, this time in the dark. The clone is in a netted pot with several other cuttings, (waiting to SOG them,) so I erased a few leaves from the picture (from the other plants) to show the 3 leaf cutting better.

Whorled Phyllotaxy - Light Shot
permalink

Here's a shot of the cutting while lit up. Once again, I erased a few leaves from the bottom of the shot (from the other clones, again...) to make everything easier to see.

Not uncommon for clones

Clones aren't perfect copies of the mother. It doesn't adversly affect its growth or potency however

Grow on,

That's cool, Ryoko. It's interesting that it rooted faster than the others. Are you going to clone it or let it die out after this generation?
