Im shooting with a Cannon SSA300. Im with the previous posts on stand-back-and-zoom-in. I use a tripod for better control. Lighting and light contrast is the key and you really do have to get in there and take a hundred to get those HQ pics. I use photoshop myself, but a good picture editor really allows the artist to pick out the details and have a nice elegant picture. Optical zoom is much more precise than digital zoom when getting down into the buds or when posting sexing pics for questioning... so if you have an optical zoom (which means the lens actually moves back and forth on the camera... not just a zoom on the screen) youll have an easier time getting really clear pictures when zooming in.
Ill be around to see this thread develop as taking pictures is a passion of mine, and remember a picture is worth a thousand words, when you really love your plants enough to show them off... take some time and effort in the presentation.. it really comes across to the receipients

excellent idea makin this thread....
I was also thinking on makin small video footages of say 20 seconds or less without audio to accelerate download speed as not all of us have cable or DSL. As there isnt a way to upload .MPEG or even .AVI or .WMV files i will try and make it into an animated .GIF with all the frames sequenced...
I didnt know how to make those lil thumb nails til i read your post and damn im glad i know now, too much work puttin the pics in the post lol
If i succeed in posting video footage i shall be hitting this thread up to share the knowlege on how i did it

If you can see the following gif then its workin

It might not work on dial-up and if it does it will take a little while before all the frames are download in order to be sequenced and played smoothly.
But on dial up you shouldn't experience too much probs.
If anybody is interrested in turning video footage into 'GIF' format you're welcome to hit me up, if there are many ill make a little tutorial

The Programs used for this are:
-Sony Vegas Video 4.0
-Flash MX

And thats it...
The only other thing you need to be concerned about is the video format, other than that its quite straight forward. Adding txt and fading/scrolling/FX titles is a little harder but still easy.
If you don't have those programs and have no way to aquire them email me and ill tell you where to get them...*cough*for free*cough*

Afterall...anything anybody has to offer to the great marijuana community is an addition to the success that gets you and me high...eventhough this might not help plants grow faster, its a nice way of sharing the eye candy with eachother

By the way, i could realistically process 10 clips which are less than a minute long a day.

Not to brag but since this thread was published, I've learned enough about taking quality shots and editing them properly to have won the POTW twice!

I was fortunate enough to have some beautifully colored and photogenic plants, but it was the advice from St0ney, Xjo, Pepperpot, and a host of others who all contributed a tip here and a tip there that helped me to advance to where I am now.

I thank you one and all!

This site is now showcasing the photos we take by rolling out the classy skin which provides a higher contrast allowing the photos to stand out better on the page.

We can all thank rick for that!

Hopefully folks will continue to drop in and provide new tricks, styles and tidbits such as the cool GIF flics offered by Sibeleen.
