I think I heard an Offer for a training lesson on photoshop 7.0, is that right?

I have been using regular old Paint that came with my XP and have gotten alright with it. I use a Kodak DX 4330, 3.1 MP with 10x zoom, 3x Optical zoom, and 3.3 Advanced digital zoom. It has all kinds of options I don't know how to use. It sounds like XJO has close to the same camera but I have no clue what he was talking about.

I have recently loaded photoshop 7.0 and can't figure it out for crap. I have also recently aquired 8.0 but I will stick with this for now. I want to know how to add a frame around a pic and how to add that signature to photo's. I have been doing all of my resizing on paint and will stick with that for now. I just want to open the photo and add my signature to it and sometimes put a frame or border around it for the POTW polls......

So, Can we get a Photoshop for Dummies tutorial?

Thanks,
Jr.

OK....
Here is the pic I wanted to put a border around. I put the white piece of paper under it to create a contrast between the plant and the background. I wanted to put a Dark border around it to look like a picture frame more or less. I also want to put a light signature on it somewhere just to tag the pic. I am hoping to get quite a few pieces together that look really good to get them added to the 420 Art Galleries. If they are good enough to get put up that is....

Hello Jr. Greenthumb :)
permalink

You certainly can get a little tutorial in photoshop 7.0
I'm using the same version...I noticed u sayd a painshop lesson, u don't mean paint shop pro do u? hope u didnt buy it, cuz it sux! lol
Anyways...from what you posted you seem to not know much about photoshop 7.0
It works very differently to other photo/image processing peogramms.
You have to be creative to achieve certain things.
A frame for instance can be added by using layers.
A layer is what the name indicates...its another empty transparent layer on your original image (or behind) on which you can add things without affecting your original image. For instance you can write sumtin on another layer on your image without having to over write pixels on your original image...which mean you can freely position you txt after you have written it.
It would make much more sense if you would instant message me somehow and i could explain it to you step by step
Writing a tutorial is a pain unless many request it...because what i will be writing in it has to be absolutely universal and applicable to everybody's undrestanding od terminology.
There for if we were to have a way to communicate quickly enough (instand messaging like MSN which I have or yahoo messenger which i absolutely dont recommend) i could tell you a few tricks within 10 minutes which would give you a head start and you should be able to learn much more on your own from there.
just confirm for me that u have 'Photoshop 7' and not 'paint shop pro 7'!
also...you will need a pic for the tutorial which im sure u have.
Another thing about Photoshop...I tend to draw out plans with pain myself so being able to use both programs is a GREAT advantage!!! So don't think that u gonn ahave to abandon paint, i love it myself, its so simple and stupid yet damn effective!
If you have MSN add me!

I have to dissagree there Sibeleen, Paint shop pro is very powerful tool if you know how to use it. Photoshop is good for pro's but for everyday folks who just want to tart up their pictures a little it's a little overkill imo..

It would be cool if you could do a couple of basic photoshop tuts.....

Fellow photographers, lend me an ear,

At the urging (maybe a mild suggestion ) of one of our esteemed members (actually kind of a southpaw moderator type ), I dashed off an email to Dutch Passion telling them how pleased I was with their Fem.Blueberry seeds.

I also told them that I had some very nice photos of a blue/purple pheno that they might think are good enough to do something with.

I received the cursory acknowledgement for taking the time, and they'll be sure to tell the breeder how happy I am and oh ain't life grand!

No mention of the photos.

Today I received another email from a real person with a Dutch name and he said they might be interested in good photos of that type. He hoped they were large, preferably 5 meg pics.

They're not. At best they are around 1 meg on average. What's the deal here, the amount of megapixels in the camera? Is there anyway in the future I can try to make bigger pics or is it simply a matter of my 3.2 megapixel camera being able to do so much?

Any comments? Hmmmmm? Pretty please with sugar?

Stoney, from your call I found a copy of fireworks MX. Awesome program btw, but the issue is I can only save as a PNG file. Does anybody know if there is a difference in size betweeen a PNG and a JPEG? What effects will saving in this form have?

I've had my copy of Fireworks for some time now and agree, it's awesome.

Go to the window pull down and optimize, it will give you the option to save as jpeg, gif, animated gif, png, tiff or bmp. I use the optimize to compress the file size without losing much detail. Works great!

Hope this helps!
