How to Post Great Photos in Threads There has been a suggestion to create a new forum concerning photography and all its implications in regard to posting here at HC.com. We all know how difficult it is to get a new forum going, mostly because this website already does such a good job of covering everything there is about the cultivation of marijuana. Plainsman1963, in his ever infinite wisdom, allowed that being a cultivation website, there was no place for a photography forum, but…. he paved the way for someone (or all of us ) to put together a useful thread where experts could advise novices in the art of posting good photos.Since nobody has jumped into the ring to get this thing off the ground…. Permit me to try to get the ball rolling. You’ve all seen my photos…. They’re no big deal, and I am one of the novices ready to learn. ![]() I do however know how to post a photo in a thread, so maybe we can begin with that. There are several ways to post a photograph; the easiest IMO is to manage your attachments. When you are writing a post, if you scroll down under your writing window. You’ll find a green area and the button that reads: Manage Attachments. ![]() Once you click Manage Attachments, another window opens and invites you to browse your computer for your photo. ![]() Clicking on Browse will open yet another window. You browse until you find the file you want. ![]() Once you find your photo, click on it, click open, and it will allow you to choose another (as many as you want) or to upload the one you’ve chosen. Don’t close the window until your photos have uploaded. NOTE: Your photo must be no larger than 800 x 600 pixels, and not more than 107.4 Kb. You can use a wide variety of software to reduce your images if necessary but I’ll allow someone else to go into that. You may upload any files with these extensions: bmp doc gif jpe jpeg jpg pdf png psd txt zip This window below will now appear. If you are ready to upload, click on upload, and then wait! ![]() _____________________________________ [/font] Last edited by mr. hyde : 11-02-2008 at 03:04 PM. Reason: fixing pics

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | You wait until the window below (notice it says Please Wait) changes to the window that tells you your files are uploaded and you can close the window. ![]() If your photos were of a proper size, they are now going to appear in the thumbnails in your post (you won’t be able to see them until you either preview your post, or submit it). The thumbnail will now be able to be enlarged simply by clicking on it. The reader will be able to see it in the size that was submitted. Your Manage Attachments area will now look somewhat like this with your photo’s filenames and extensions listed. ![]() If you want to put your photo inline in your post (as a full size photo within your post), you can click on the photo filename (cup.jpg for example) and it will open in another window. ![]() Highlight the address as above. (I like to start with the www since the http:// is already included in the next part.Copy it, close the window, then look on the top of your post, you’ll find this symbol: ![]() The symbol is the Insert Image button and it is found up here: ![]() ___________________________________ Last edited by mr. hyde : 11-02-2008 at 03:05 PM.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Click on , and this script prompt opens up:![]() Paste in the web address of the uploaded file you just copied, make sure your cursor is where you want the photo to appear in your post, click OK, and Voila! You did it! Your photo is now within your post amongst the text, like this: ![]() Another way to post photos is to find them online already, anywhere. Right click on the photo and you’ll open this up: ![]() Click on properties. You’ll open this window: Highlight the address beginning with the www,as shown below: ![]() Copy it, then go back to the Insert Images button , and click it, paste your address in the script prompt, ![]() Click OK, (make sure your cursor is where you want the photo to go) and once more, you’re good to go! There are other methods to put photos in your posts, such as uploading them to MJ.com instead of to HC.com as in the Manage Attachments area. I’ll let others explain some of the other methods. The purpose of this thread is not only to show how to post photos, but how to take good photos as well. I hope some of our talented members will come forward to build a thread here that will assist all of us in producing better shots. I have a Canon Power-Shot A70, which has all the bells and whistles, but I have no clue as to use anything other than automatic mode. One tip I can give you all…. When I want a close-up, I shoot through a magnifying glass! If I knew more about shutter speeds and apertures, maybe my photos wouldn’t be so blurry. C’mon Community… Let’s all become photographers we can be proud of! milagro

Good to see you take the lead on this topic! My cameras are an Olympus D-450 zoom, Olympus C-750 Ultra zoom, Olympus C-5060 wide zoom (kinda stuck on Olympus), for different types of photograpy, and my old trusty Cannon FTB 70-210 zoom 35MM SLR for high quality color prints. I can give SOME info on the technical aspects of taking a good photo. Where's Shooter when ya need him?? I know there are some good photographers out there so chime in! ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | One tip I would offer would be to make careful use of the focusing apparatus of whatever type of camera you use. Blurry pictures aren't worth the effort posting, yet many do. I use a SONY cyber shot. I hate it but it takes nice pics.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Excellent thread Milagro. Glad to see you're helping the Newb's along. I myself am using an Olympus as well. (D-380) For less than 90 beans it gets the Job done and works better than a webcam for posting pics. i think the key to posting a good pic is taking multiple shots of your subject, so that you have the option of posting the best picture of the set. Use automatic flash if you're unsure of the lighting scheme. 1)Try to keep your light source BEHIND you to avoid glare. 2)Steady hands mean clearer pics. My 2 cents.
